In praise of Idlewild

I just have to say thank you to Pearl Jam for introducing me to Idlewild...arguably the best band to open for Pearl Jam in recent history. At any rate, their most recent album, Post Electric Blues, is self-released and done in a very classy way. For all of those who pre-ordered the album we were given access to download live tracks from their performances at King Tut; had access to digital tracks online before the album was sent to us; and when the album arrived, my name (amongst all others who showed early support) was included in the liner notes. Not to mention, I'm loving the album so far.

Way to go, Idlewild, I am one happy camper. Now all I need is for them to come to the states - ahem, Pearl Jam :)

Yeah, it's pretty cool to see your name in there. Makes it personal.

I just got mine today, I assume you got yours today too? Hence the thread, right?
  • Yeah, I got mine in the mail yesterday and it's going to get me through the day today. Did either of you get the Scottish Fiction release a while back? I wish I could play it on a normal dvd player but unfortunately, it only works on the computer.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. You can find me under "Brian Zilm" in the booklet. I'm really impressed with the album. I'd like to have seen "No Wiser" in place of "Bring You Back To Life", but both are good songs.

What did you guys download through the site? I did the 100BW album plus a couple other live songs.

I wish I had got some more W/P songs and ones from the last album. El Capitan, Love Steals Us From Lonliness, Ghost in the Arcade...sooo many good songs we missed out on
  • Just got mine yesterday and I love it. It is really something else to see your name listed in the CD cover (or poster or whatever you want to call it). It's also neat knowing that they personally packaged them and sent them out. I've only seen Pearl Jam three times live, but Idlewild was my favorite opener, and I would love to see them have that opportunity again.

I wonder if Pearl Jam might do something similar to this. It seems to be inline with their persona as a band; they care about their fans, they don't have a problem with doing an independent release, and I think they know their fans would dig it. A special release for the fans would also be inline with what they did in giving self-titled a special package for fan club pre-sale. I think I would freak out if I saw my name listed in one of Pearl Jams album sleeves (even if it was listed with several thousand others).
