Eddie singing The Doors' "The End" would have been awesome...albeit, I am sure the new song is not too shabby either.

I wrote a bit about it in the Philly thread, it sounded familiar to me and it came to me this morning. It's a lot like a Randy Newman song in Toy Story II -- when the girl doll sings about her child abandoning her (only this is about adults, a couple). Very melodic, joyous in parts and meloncholy elsewhere, unlike anything I've heard PJ or Ed do before, a bit more I dunno "classical" than Parachutes but kinda in that vein.
I mean, it's NOT the newman song, just the same vibe and ride through emotions.
It was really hard to get into ARC so fast after hearing The End the first time -- needed a breather....
(Double checking, yeah Newman wrote it, "When She Loved Me", it was sung by Sarah Ann McLachlan -- and wow, it was nominated for the oscar but lost to phil collins tarzan something.... sigh.)
I have also heard reports that the closing orchestral music at eddie solo shows is an arrangement for "The End". This has led many to speculate that it is the "song drenched in strings" that has been talked about. I hope so. It is a great song.
At the frist bmore show Eddie hinted the new song was about his prior relationship/divorce... I can't remember his exact words. But yeah the song is great; I love how they cut the lights right when he cuts the song.

You know......it makes me sad to think of Ed suffering to write a song like this!!!!
did he explain he was sad when he wrote it?
no just a guess...I could be wrong...it wouldn't be the first time...
Its definitely a sad song.

ed's best lyrics? yes!!!!!!!! never heard him write/sing like that. i'm hoping its nothing related to him as it really brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear it. if this is on backspacer i cant wait to hear the rest xxx
I'm not saying I've heard it, but if I had an aural vision of it in a dream, I would say ....
It's a medium-paced song, using what sounds like a mainly two-fingered picking style. It begins with major chords and major-scalar melody for the opening verses, then launches off into a more complex bridge sequence that uses some Bach-like ascending and descending chords . There's a little bit of Blackbird about those chords, but the mood and attack of the playing and lyrics is of course different and much more pensive.
The vocal melody is convincing, even if I'm not sure about whether it should be "emoted" so much. It might be more impressive and really powerful if it were sung with a bit more detachment. Just my opinion.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
