as it was a one time thing, we did the tandem jump (where you are harnessed to an instructor) but, I'd love to take classes and go solo.

This is in my hometown!
I've been wanting to do this too!
I think that is the place that I went to when I skydived. It is awesome, you won't be dissapointed. I don't like flying or heights, and I'm glad I did it.

The first two times, I went up in a little Cessna (sp?)...the ride up in that frickin thing was the worst part! I couldn't wait to jump out of it....trusted my chute more than the plane.
there is you, the instructor and two other jumpers...you take turns climbing out the door and hanging off the wing strut...the instructor is laying on the strut, holding your pilot chute...when you let go, he throws the chute out, and you freefall for maybe 10 seconds while your main chute opens...I think you jump from about 3000ft.
it was awesome, but it was an entire day of class, plus about $120 (10-15 yrs ago)...you have to do a minimum number of solo jumps before you can do a solo free fall jump...(there was a class available called PFF (Progressive Free Fall), in which you paid like $500 and did six jumps in a weekend; the last one a solo free-fall jump)...because it was a couple years between my first two jumps, I had to pay full price and take the class both times.
THe third time, I said to hell with it and paid for the tandem jump, strapped to an instructor (it was more like $250-$300?)...THAT was the experience I was looking for...like 15 jumpers in (I believe it was) a Twin Otter, jumped from 13,500 ft! Free fall for almost two minutes....a kamikaze pilot that passed us doing a nose dive while we were free falling...it was insane!
When I did my tandem jump, this is pretty much how I did it ... some differences as I did a tandem from a cesna, not a static line.
they had two planes, the one that opens up in the back and everyone jumped out ... and the shitty little cesna, I got the shitty little cesna ...
however, I was at 13,000 feet. climbing onto a wing at 13,000 feet, with a camera guy hanging off the wing already and a guy strapped to my back ... yeah, that part kind of sucked!
But, the rest was a fucking blast!

The mental image of the tandem jump from a cesna is funny as hell! That thing was awkward enough to get out of alone...can't imagine it tied to an instructor...the pilot mustve been fighting hard to stay level with three people on the wing!
I still have video of my first jump (vhs  )...when I step down to hang off the strut...you can see one of my shoes come off at the heel....I'm trying to look down to save it, and the instructor is patting my head telling me to look up
Wish I had my tandem landing on tape. I landed clean, but my feet were too planted to roll with the weight of my instructor...he crushed me into the ground. It hurt, but I was too pumped to care...must've looked hilarious.
I saw some funny bails that day...a close friend of mine, an experienced jumper, tried to 'hook in', and did a 'three point landing'...feet, knees, face. I liked hangin at those little drop zone airports...skydivers have their own quirky little culture...and they're fun to party with
ah, you're evil. I have an image to uphold, c'mon now. *straightens tie*

:P
on topic now!
I want to jump from plane.
