Yeah...she was a West Highland White Terrier. Really scrappy. She should have died a year and half ago. But she managed to get better and live..well..another year and a half. It really was an amazing gift she gave me because I wasn't ready to say goodbye back then. Since she recovered, I was able to come to come to terms with the fact she wasn't going to be around forever.

She used to hate UPS trucks. Whenever one came around she would bark like crazy at them. She did the same thing with dogs that were 3 times her size. Here she was this little Westie and she wasn't scared of anything or anyone.

    The house feels empty tonight.

I'm so sorry. I've been through that before and it's always very hard. :(

It sounds like Campbell was a great dog and had a wonderful life that was full of adventures with you.

My Charlie (age 12 yellow Lab with six inch legs!) hates the UPS truck too- how cute- must be short dog syndrome

I'm sorry you had to put your friend to sleep- thats very hard- we had to also with our Scottie McKay (age12) and Brittany Maggie (age 5) both had cancer. Its very difficult- the family was ready to go last summer with Jakey 14 yrs shepherd mix but he passed that morning at home.

Your heart is full of wonderful memories and love- share them.

It's almost 2 months I had to have my cat put down.
I still struggle with it, there isn't a day where I don't think of him.

  • Thanks for all the kind words everybody. It's amazing how animals can have such an impact on our lives isn't it? When I posted, it really was the low point for me but the past few days has brought some healing. She really wasn't the same dog she had been for a majority of her life the past few years. The only sense she had left was smell. She had a lot of trouble walking. She really didn't even recognize us anymore. Once I realized this, it's made it easier to deal with the fact that she's gone. I still think I have to put her outside, feed her, and just check on her from time to time, which is tough. But(as cliche as it is) it's just going to take time.

Again, thanks for the kind words.

sorry. I know how You feel.

The pets live too short for us. Sad...

  • sorry to hear that. I have a 13 year old lab since college. he's getting up there. Hobbes. at least you can look at that your dog lived a long life for a dog but it's never long enough for us.

Sorry to hear... it's the sad end that 100% of dog and cat owners will have to deal with at some point. Putting a pet down when they're in pain and at the end of their life is humane. It's quick, and they fall asleep. Terribly sad though. My heart goes out to you and your doggie. You gave her a good life. That's all the dog could have asked for. :)
