Strep throat

I have it and it sucks. Hurts to eat. Anyone know anything that can soothe it without going to a doctor? I hate Dr's and try to avoid them as often as possible.

    shot of grandma helps too

    go to the walkin clinic. they have a single shot now that works great. will cost ya 50 bucks but its so effective it is worth it.

    Hmm, what about the black label? I personally recommend that one..anyway, google it and you'll get a ton of advice/information..

    I don't recommend ignoring strep throat. You should get treated so it doesn't spread beyond the throat. Strep can wreck havoc in other organs (e.g. kidneys, heart).

    What everyone else said - Doctor.
    In the meantime Strepsils are decent and contain a mild anaesthetic.

    Antibiotics are the only thing that's gonna help in the long term, but I get it often and find that the really super-powered Halls cough drops (the light blue ones) provide some short-term relief. If it's really strep (which would be agonizing anytime you swallow even saliva, let alone food) you won't be able to stand not going to the doctor for long, so my advice would be to not delay the inevitable.

    Had strep when I was younger and it feels the same. I did go to the doctor today (reluctantly) and it is strep. They gave me a antibiotic called azthromyctin (sp?) or something like that. A 5 day cycle and I should be good to go. Gonna take the first dose tonight and see how it goes. Thanks for all the advice.

    I have strep throat too :( The doctor gave me a z pack. Antibiotics are the only thing that will cure it. Advil has been helping lower my fever and reduce the pain in my throat. Just relieved it's not the pig flue!!! :o :?

    It sucks, I've had it twice. But definitely see the doctor.

    I usually get strep at least once a year and nothing puts me on my ass like strep does!
    I think I'd almost rather have the flu or food poisoning than strep.
    The only thing that will make it better is meds so you HAVE to go to the doctor.

    Thanks! My fever is finally gone, but my throat still hurts. The advil is making a huge difference. I thought I was immune to strep cause my roommate in college got it every year and I never had it before now :( Glad you're feeling better :)

    First of all, like a bunch of people said, go to the doctor ASAP! Strep throat is nothing to play around with... When I was growing up my parents refused to take me to a doctor unless I needed vaccines for school. I ended up having strep throat for nearly a month and it was more and more unbearable each day. It WILL NOT get better on its own is what I am saying. So go as soon as you can!

    For temporary relief I have come across a few methods that do work a little, but really, nothing is going to take the pain away for more than a couple of minutes.

    Put a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in warm water and gargle. Same with salt and peppermint extract.

    Gargle with mouthwash.

    Popsicles.

    Chloroseptic spray? Not sure how to spell that one.

    Tons and tons of advil. Really, it's the only pain reliever that works. Use it!!!
