Warning: Avoid Ticket Insurance (esp. Mondial)

So I just got done with a nice half hour conversation with these folks and thought I'd share my experience. I wanted to catch Outside Lands but was worried about my wife's work schedule (she's a teacher) so I bought the tix and pitched the $12 for the "Event Protector" insurance. My concern was well founded and my wife needs to start work early for the next school year.

So, I file a claim online...easy enough. Four weeks go by without a response and I give them a call. They hadn't looked at the claim because I didn't provide sufficient documentation. I asked them what that would entail and they stated I needed a letter from my wife's employer, on letterhead, stating that she would be working on during the event. Now, my wife got an e-mail from her principal, but no official notices on letterhead. I asked the agent whether that would be sufficient and she didn't think so. I then asked if it would be easier to just sell the tickets on StubHub and she said "probably."

So, for those of you considering picking up ticket insurance in the future, my advice would be to just not waste your money. They would probably honor their policies, but the odds of it not being 10x more trouble than its worth are almost zero. I admit I suspected this would be the case even when I bought the insurance, but now that I've had the experience, I'm sure I won't repeat the mistake.

P.S. If anyone needs tix to Outside Lands, I was an earlybird and will happily sell mine (soft tix) at the $200 face value. I'll even cover all service fees and the carbon-neutral donation.
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I’m
delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.
