Saying one word about politics, war, Bush, or Obama in Albany. I am glad I didn't have to hear "No More" again or listen to how bad Bush is or how great the demi-god Obama is. It truly was refreshing.

Seems to me that Ed is happy with the state of the country. No reason to bring politics up!
  • I was excited about this as well. Not till afterwards did I notice this though. I guess I was just caught up in the moment!

Who cares if he did say something political? Have you ever heard of the 1st amendment?

If he did talk about how bad Bush was, and how great Obama is, he would only be speaking the truth.

Gimme some truth!! Now thats a song that I wanna hear tonight at the Tower!!

Why do they piss you off so much? Isn't it ok for them to go to a concert and not hear a rock star talk about the ills of the world? MOst people don't need a rock star to make them think about the world...in fact, most people want a rock concert to be a place to get away from it for a little while.

Either way, I'll never understand people getting mad at others that are happy when ed does or doesn't go off on a political rant.

You know I agree with you there. But we know when Ed isn't happy, he lets us know. (Actually, he did let us know he wasn't happy fucking up numerous times with the songs). Perhaps he wanted to keep the mood light and all good.

And here's to FREE SPEECH!!! Let the man say absolutely whatever he wants, whether we want to hear it or not!

I'd never yell shut up and sing, and I really love Ed's stories on these tours but the political ones just dont have the good feeling with them that the other ones tend to have. And No More every night is like being waterboarded. Its a blah song that just never would go away.

so I'm glad he's happy enough to not play it - I hope its permanently retired.

The war in Iraq is still going on, so I don't think the song is permanently retired, just yet.

I am happy that Ed respects us and considers his audience intelligent enough to talk politics. He realizes that whatever he says, we are smart enough to make our own judgments. In order to make an educated decision, we need to hear it from all angles. I don't think he is forcing it on us, I think he wants to inspire us to make a difference, get fired up and do something.

Many of us have made a difference in the world because of their music so I say keep talking about your ideals. Make me think about something else we can change for the better.

    My two cents...
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.... (Voltaire)

why do you think NBC pulled the plug on the RITFW video ?
I certainly think it might have had something to do with Eds " Doctor " line and "Right To Life" Statements at the end,
and i think there will always be something for him to voice his feelings on or about,
    one way or another,
    one president or another,.

Listen dude...i go to these shows (and pay top dollar, might I add) to get AWAY from it all. Not to hear grumbling about the world from someone who #1) let's face it, does not remember what it's like to be a "normal citizen" of the world and #2) is not aware of what life is like as a small business owner who is getting taxed up the wazoo and who doesn't want government telling them how to run shit. Let's face it....he can get diarrhea of the mouth sometimes.

I fucking LOVE Eddie. I'm young and have loved Pearl Jam since they started. More and more celebrities rant and protest and hold fundraisers....this does not give people their own opinion. It gives them their favorite celebrities opinion.... I've been to MANY shows and would like to just enjoy the music.

Life is too short. Free speech is awesome and I respect his opinion....but there is a time and a place. No need to get hostile. It was a joke....hence the "LOL" after. I have completely opposite viewpoints than Eddie but believe he is a genius with music and yes, do respect him. It's refreshing to know that at the 2 shows I'm going to, I get to look forward to enjoying the moment....

what's funny is that the people that don't want to hear him speak probably would get jazzed if he played masters of war ... anyhoo - it is my understanding that in going to a pearl jam or EV show - that political rants have occured therefore when you pay "top dollar" - you should expect it ... if you don't like it - save your money but to say that he should or shouldn't speak is really not up to anyone on here ... it's up to him - feel free to walk out next time he rants at a show - some people in denver a few years back did that ... it's all good ... as far as pj/ev shows go - none of y'all are entitled to anything except that you will listen to good music - which songs they play, how long they play for, what they say in between songs - that's totally the band's discretion ...

Nope, because if he was unhappy with Obama, we would know about it. Ed makes it known when he's unhappy politically.
