Did Ed's comment bug any other NY'er?

I am not much of a complainer. But, I was not real excited with one of Ed's comments last night. During his Hudson River piss/shit speech, he ended by saying "well, NY is shit anyway, right?".

Born and raised in NY, I could have done without that one. I have a feeling Ed says things and then wishes he didn't, this is hopefully one of them.

Just bugged me that's all.

I've been a NY'er all my life too, though I like living here, and I'm making a living here..........he's right. There is a lot wrong with NY. Starting with the fact that we are pretty much the highest taxed state in the country, among many other political ills. Hey, i guess somebody needs to be the highest taxed right? All in all, the comment didn't really bother me, he was probably referring to the Yankees who were getting spanked by the sox as he sang
"You would be punctilious in assuming that."

I don't think Ed minds high taxes... otherwise he wouldn't support the democrats so much.

Hey over here in Vermont we have just as high taxes. It's funny how here in the northeast where the dems rule, taxes are unaffordable. Got to pay for all these entitlement programs somehow. Stupid liberals.

Its a dirty noisy city devoid of anything remotely resembling nature. Perhaps that is not his thing. I can 100% relate to that. It's not somewhere I'd want to go.
I feel the same about Sydney and I was born and raised there and would take no offence is he said the same thing about it.

It's just a comment.. he wasn't critizicing you personally.

I guess I missed that. Well you can't expect everyone to love New York as I do - I truly love the place (esp. Manhattan) with all my heart. But I don't really care. As long as he comes to play here now and again - I'll be there.

gee, thats funny, if thats how eddie relly felt about the hudson river ,
perhaps this is why he dropped out , at the absolute last minute ,
from the Clearwater Benefit and Pete Seegers 90th birthday bash at MSG a few months back ,...?

Dude, chill the f*ck out. Im from NY and new yorkers arent sensative little bitches. Relax, just enjoy the music and take your skirt off. Ed was trying to get a reaction not trying to make you cry. This board is full of negative cry babies.

Not trying to defend Ed, cuz I wasn't there or anything....

But taking a paddle board through pollution that you think is sewer or could have sewer in and the edges of your board turn brown....its really gross and gives you a bad bad feeling about the environment...when slimy brown stuff gets on my board, I paddle to clearer water as fast as I can, and splash my board to get the ick off it - and then spend an hour hosing it off when I get home... It can be so yucky, that brown foamy shit....ick!! :|

The way I look at it is, Ed didn't have to spend 4 days in Albany scoping out the place and getting on the local waterways. But he did. I think digging deeper into his "shit" story is redundant, because he was simply in a light-hearted story telling mode, and not trying to truly diss the place. That's what I got out of it. He has roots here, he wasn't really trying to put NY down, IMO.

People need to stop taking things so personally.

    :(
i wasn't at the show, so don't really know the context, nor most importantly the tone/body language expressed when making this comment. reading it, none too fond of it....but sure, it does still seem like an off the cuff comment, not meant any harm. that said, i agree with you, i think ed does make a lot of awkward gaffes unknowingly, and certainly unmeaningly...at least i hope so. and sure, a lot of it is in 'humor'....but as the saying goes, many a truth disguised in humor.

i will say, i honestly have always gotten the feeling that ed doesn't care much for NY. well, at least NYC, or more specifically, NYers. ;) haha. 9 think the city is too busy, too loud, people can be gruff, etc. me, i think NYers are some of the nicest people in the world. just stay the fuck out of our way. ;) and sure, we call it like we see it most of the time. however, you bet....born and raised NYer here....i LOVE this place. and no matter what is fucked up about it, and of course there's lots....like most places i might add.....it still has soooooo much going for it! NY is simply NOT NYC, alone.....but even NYC...beautiful city, amazing vibe...and whoever mentioned devoid of nature? i guess you've never heard of, seen pictures, or visited central park....acres of nature, beauty, a true haven in the city....along with many other small, pocket parks thruout the city. however, NYS is huge....sooooo much diversity in nature, people, etc.....we have mountains, beaches, trees and more trees, people from all over the world living in the state, culture and all else. you bet, i truly do love NY. :)

so yea...i really don't think ed has much love for us here, but he knows we love him/them, and that keeps him coming back. sure, i would be cool if he shared the love...but whatever, i am not going to lose any sleep over it. as long as he and pj keep coming back, and back.....good enough for me. we're NYers, we can take the digs. ;):D:mrgreen:
    Stay with me...

His comments don't bother me. He's probably only kidding anyway. If he was serious, he obviously doesn't know the history of the Hudson River, and how although it isn't the cleanest, it is much cleaner than it was 30 years ago and is still improving. He's also probably never been out on a boat chillin all day with his friends on the river, or spent an afternoon taking in its beauty from the mountain and hilltops around here. He's probably never ridden Metro North down to the city to see a concert, and checked out all the really cool scenery that surrounds the river either.

It's cool... he's just one less rich guy that won't be buying property in the Hudson Valley, and there are quite a few already. The taxes ARE horrendous, I agree, as are the laws. You can barely wipe your ass without the government regulating it in this state (aren't you in the legislature ;) ? ). As I'm sure you know the people are great. And the weather... Although it can be a bit much to endure the snow sometimes, when was the last time we had tornados, flooding, an earthquake, a blizzard that dropped 36 inches, a scorching dry-spell, or a hurricane? We don't! It's great, we get all 4 seasons without the REAL extremes of any of them!

Albany isn't the most inspiring of places here, but it's got its good parts. He probably tried to write a song about it, got writer's block, and took it out on the Hudson. :)

I like that Jim Morrison quote...something along the lines of this: "L.A. is known for it's beautiful landscapes, but New York has the grooviest people".
