  • I've always said that there wasn't a song I didn't like better when sung by Eddie, but JT's live version of Millworker just came on and I may actually prefer it to EV's. :o

HOWEVER, I think State Trooper is soooooo much better when Ed does it. I can listen to his version over and over and over.

I often wonder how Hallelujah would sound if he did it. I can't see it being as beautifully haunting as the Jeff Buckley version, but I think it could be pretty special.

  • i agree with most of these

    save it for later
    baba

Any Yousuf Islam (Cat Stevens) song ED sings is GREAT. I would realy love to hear Ed give "FATHER and SON" and HARD HEADED WOMAN" a try or just call Yousuf (cat stevens) ISLAM and have a benifit show. They have a lot to cover. I love Yousuf (cat stevens) Islam.

I love Cat Stevens too. I took a class in high school (way back when) called "Contemporary Thought and Issue." We watched a film (I don't remember what film) but Cat Stevens did all the music for the movie. I asked my teacher after class..., "Who's the singer?" My teacher just smiled and told me to get his records.
What is it about Cat Stevens? He puts me in a trance.
    Anyway, good choice.

I like the Dead Kennedys version of Bleed for Me better than the PJ version. :)

I would like to hear Ed do Lloyd Cole's song "I'm Gone." Lloyd does a heck of a job with it himself, but I think it would sound great coming from Ed, too.

Ed's voice is so wide ranging he could cover "C is for Cookie" and it'd be great! With that being said, I'd love to see him/PJ cover the following:
    - "Thirteen" - Danzig (also covered by Johnny Cash)
    - "Fade To Black" - Metallica
    - "Like a Hurricane" - Neil Young
    - "Wild World" & "How Can I Tell You" - Cat Stevens
    - "Velvet Alley" - Strung Out
    - "Angry Chair" - Alice in Chains
    - "Nebraska" & "Shut out the Light" - Bruce Springsteen
    - "Ripple" - Grateful Dead
    - "Nodody's Fault But Mine" & "In My Time of Dying" - Led Zeppelin
    - "Stargazer" - Mother Love Bone
    - "The Spirit of Radio" - Rush
    - "Holiday in the Sun" - Sex Pistols
    - "Judy is a Punk" - Ramones

Think Ed and the band would blast these out!!!

The film has to be Harold and Maude. I absolutely love it! Eddie has said that the movie Harold and Maude's soundtrack by Cat Stevens was inspiration for him writing the soundtrack for Into the Wild. If you've seen both of these movies, you will believe it.

Really? I'll have to look into this. It'll take me back to 1988. How could I not remember that title? I know the movie made an impression on me as well, I just don't remember the details as to why.
    Hey, thanks though.

I was at the Chicago solo shows last year when he covered Hurt...out of all of the millions of songs in existence, that's the last one I thought he would ever cover, and he did it beautifully. This was my husband and I when we heard him play the first few notes of it:
Seriously, the man could cover just about any song and I'd think his version was good. I've loved all the covers they've done so far.

  • I know I'm a bit biased, but my friend and I were talking about this the other day...I have to agree that Ed's/Pearl Jam's covers are better and usually more rocking than the originals.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...
  • I really enjoyed PJ's Zepplin cover of "Fool In The Rain" that they did with Robert Plant at the benifit in 2005.
There's alot to be said for Nowhere
  • Let's try it.....
What songs do you think that Edddie Vedder can cover and make better. He's made so many already but there is more to discover. in addition' what PJ song do you think is their best live performance (VENUE AND DATE)?

    My fav's

Bob Dylan's Forever Young Boston 06
I heard him singing U2's "Streets with no Name" on Bunny With Fangs website.

Your out of your mind no way Eddie Vedder does any U2 better than Bono!

I'm sure there are a bunch of songs that Eddie makes sound better that we haven't heard yet. He probably just sings them at home. :? :D

I'm a James Taylor fan, but Ed makes Taylor's "Millworker" ten times better.

couldn't agree with you more...wasn't even a fan of millworker until last year's nyc show and then found his other versions of it. he does a great job with it.

You guys are crazy Eddie Vedder's Millworker can't touch James Taylor's. No one can match the originality of James Taylors voice he is a legend. Eddie Vedder's version is so plain. No one can sound better than James Taylor playing James Taylor. That's just trying to be so pro pearl jam and pro Eddie Vedder........

Not to mention Eddie Vedder strums the song on guitar because he's not as good as James Taylor on guitar to play it like James Taylor with the plucking!
