A Moving Train - PJ Playlist

Jlew's last thread has inspired me to create this one. I'm curious to see what songs speak to the people on the "Crazy Train" here the most... Which PJ songs are your favorite? Explain why, if you feel like it. I didn't want to put this in the Porch, because I'm curious to see what the specific 30-40 regulars here really like.

I'll go first--
My favorite song usually rotates, but more times than not, it's:

Immortality -- What's not to love about this song? Awesome lyrics, the crash of the cymbals during the chorus-- the intro, the outro, the leads / solos (which sound unlike any other pearl jam solo). Not to mention, it's a really fun song to play yourself.

How bout yous?

I really love the studio version of that song, and how it straight makes your heart skip a beat after it startles you coming out of "Sometimes." I'd turn it down, but I'd rather have the heart attack. :)

    definitely up there!
i love the energy, but i also love the lyrics....it's a testiment to love, or an anti-love love song, all depending on your mood/interpretation of the moment. ;)

release always a fave.......just beautiful, haunting...
    oceans.....gorgeous!
man of the hour....i think self-explanatory really, especially if you've lost your dad.

hell, i love most of the pj catalogue for one reason or another.....some for energy, some for lyrics, some for beauty, some for any combo of the above. it's easier to ask what i don't like.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

That one is right up there for me... Top 10. I was blown away the first time I heard it. Once also blew me away the first time I heard it-- that was the first song to make me love Pearl Jam.

I can still say that State of Love and Trust is my favorite song. Other than that, my favorites change depending on the album I've listened to last.

For a long time my absolute favorite song was "State of love and trust", as it spoke vividly to me when I was feeling at my most down and out, and was considering ending it all.

As for now, I dunno if I have a most favorite, but I really do love the studio version of "Yellow Ledbetter", mostly because of the beautiful acoustic guitar and excellent bluesy solos.

At other occasions, I relly love the studio version of "Do the evolution". It gives me goosebumps the sheer sneer (heh) of Ed's vocals in that song. He sounds so damn utterly pissed off it gets me going. I'm a sucker for emotion in music.

    Peace

Sometimes it depends on the mood at the time, but my absolute favorites are,

    Tremor Christ

    Fatal

Release (the first song i ever heard them play live as a youngling back in 1998), i'll have that memory tucked away inside me forever.

Faithful - I love the bridge in this song, it fucking rocks.

Long Road - first song I heard (on the Dead Man Walking soundtrack) that made me finally pay proper attention to Vedder & PJ.

Immortality - beautiful song, that also packs a punch.
  • It's hard not to love Given to Fly. Favorites for me come and go but Given to Fly always stays atop the list.

"[It's about] ...not becoming bitter and reclusive, not condemning the whole world because of the actions of a few." - EV

Outside of that it's a tie right now between Breath and Love Boat Captain.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned In Hiding yet.

Anyhow, that's one of my favorites, definitely. In hiding has an increscendo that's just perfect! I'd love to hear it live someday

There's just too many great songs to choose from, but other personal favorites are: I Got Shit, Indifference, Breathe, Do the Evolution, Release, Sad and Alive. After all these years I still enjoy it like the first time I heard it (Caracas, Venezuela, 1992).

    Cheers from Argentina

That was actually my favorite song a year ago to this date. I wrote a blog about how prevalent that song was to my life.

    I absolutely love it!
