A guy at the local record store recommended them to me after I told him I was looking for something dramatic, and ambient.

He opened up their album All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone, and let me sample it and damn. I went ahead and bought it...came home, ended my sobriety and layed in bed with my headphones on and this playing...WOW!

What a great band, anybody else out there heard or listen to these guys? I'm realy digging it.

i was the person who started the thread a couple days ago. No matter though, Explosions are a band worth talking about.

You arent gonna find too many other bands who create sublime, mindblowing music like this. As I said in the previous thread, this is a band that you grab your headphones or iPod, and when its nighttime, sit or lie down in the grass and star up at the sky. This band makes you appreciate life, and contemplate its meaning.

All their albums are great, not a clunker in the bunch.

Yea, these guys are really cool. Although I was intencly into them for a while, they have worn slightly on me. There still great but I just can make it through a whole album anymore.

I still check out some of my favorite tracks now and again though. Poor Mans Memory may be my favorite track. How about you guys, any favorite songs.

Yeah, it all started with Mogwai, who aren't really like a math band or anything...but they tend to be pretty experimental and at times, ambient.

Have any other bands you'd recommend? I like this deep, contemplative music.

theyre not all the same style as Explosions, but the following bands are all worth exploring:

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.
    65DaysOfStatic
Battles (very maths-rock, but very catchy, dance-oriented stuff. the song "Atlas" is particularly brilliant.
    Fantomas (another Patton project)
    God Is An Astronaut
    Godspeed You! Black Emporer
    Isis
    This Will Destroy You

Maybe give Captain Beefheat or King Crimson a look too

    I like EITS a lot.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor are another band that sets the stanard pretty high in this kind of music.

sigur ros has some exceptional music.

On the heavier side of thigs bands like Pelican & Isis are very good.

Seen ISIS live, and have two of their albums. They're not bad. I've heard of Pelican, but never had the chance to check them out...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor soudns cool, I'll keep them on the list.

The guy at the store wrote down a list that has This Will Destroy You on it, so now I'll definitely check them out.

I love ...Trail Of Dead. I've acquired some Battles.

Looks like I've got some serious listening to do...I guess I'll have to neglect my PJ for a bit :(

This Will Destroy You and Godspeed would be my faves so not a bad call there at all. Cant beat friendly record store folk who help you find new material.

At least there's always that "second honeymoon" feeling when you come back to PJ after a cooling off period! 8-) (as if i have any idea what a 2nd honeymoon actually feels like, lol)

Oh, I konw that feeling that's for sure. Having it again would be nice indeed...although, it can't surmount the feeling that I'm going to have once the lights go off at the United Center on Aug. 23rd.

The only thing that could make it better is if for the love of God the first notes I hear are those of 'Release'. My sweet lord, I'll probably scream and jump around like a freakin' school girl! :ugeek:

Yeah, except for when they recommend a piece of crap album by some mediocre, emotional stab-me-in-the-heart-with-my-eye-liner-while-I-swing-my-one-ridiculous-looking-bang-out-of-my-eyesight band.

Sorry, I was just really pissed off that day when I bought a $14 pile of steaming dung... :x. I actually still have that CD, somwhere  ...it would probably make an excellent frisbee for my dog.

Big fan of shoegaze (though i am not a fan of that label)...A few of my favorites:

Daysleepers (check out Loved by the Sun, amazing track)
A Shoreline Dream (recommend New York as a starter track)
Airiel (In Your Room is a nice one)
Robin Guthrie (Pale is a dreamy one)

If you like those, let me know.. i can suggest other bands in the same genre.

If trees could talk are amazing.

there are so many others too, like enola's gift, this is your captain speaking, mono etc

to be honest, use www.last.fm, check out all the similar bands to EITS and then check out and the similar bands from the bands you liked which were similar to EITS heh. It's how i find out more music, its an awesome site.

Ahh, nice to hear If These Trees Could Talk and Gifts From Enola mentioned. The new Gifts album "From Fathoms" is a great record. My band is actually on the same label as both of them so it's cool to see :D

New Caspian record "Tertia" very soon as well . And Mono are probably the best ever, in my mind.
