  • Nobody knows???

I know it's in the South - most likely Kentucky, Tennessee or Louisiana.....which doesn't narrow it down a whole lot, I know....

The entire road situation in that movie was jacked up. I live in the area, and actually work in Elizabethtown, KY, the the route they took from Louisville to E-town was completely wrong, I remember laughing at that during the movie. I have no idea where the road they actually met on is.

  • I just looked the scene on youtube and it isn't quite as I remember. I didn't remember it being so barren. I thought it was an actual road with a ton of trees along it....but this on is much more remote.....

http://www.nps.gov/natr/photosmultimedi ... 0#e_165157 - look at the picture labelled "Old Trace, Mississippi" - think that could be it (Obviously different seasons)??

Reason I'm asking is, I'm going on a road trip down that way and I don't want to drive on the Interstate the whole time.....I'd much rather drive on some nice country roads......Are you familiar with the Natchez Trace? I was thinking that I'd drive from Memphis to Tupelo and then down the Natchez to Jackson and then to New Orleans. Thing is, it adds 3-4 hours onto the drive...so I want to make sure it's gonna be nice.....any ideas?

Any and all help is appreciated! :)

Curvy as shit, narrow, hard to see because of all the trees....especially at night....then depending on the time of year you gotta worry about deer and other wildlife. If you're not familiar with the area a lot of these back roads can be dangerous!

And I have no idea where that number came from either. Elizabethown is exit 94 off I-65. Exit 1 off the Bluegrass parkway, and exit 136 off the Western Kentucky Parkway. 60B would be about 35 miles south of Elizabethtown.

Good to know...thanks for the advice....

Perhaps I will just stick to the Interstate for that part of the drive....

Either way, I'm pumped to see your part of the world!! :)

You should stop at Mammouth Cave if you're into nature stuff...that place is intense! And it won't be too far off the beaten path for you. http://www.mammothcave.com/

  • Sweet - I'm so glad you said that. I saw it on the map and was considering stopping there. We're spending a night in Louisville and then going to take our time driving to Nashville. Mammoth Cave will definitely be a stop.

    Any other suggestions?

I saw the movie and thought it was filmed in Elizabethtown. However, someone told me that most of the movie was filmed in Versailles, KY near Lexington. My husband and I attended the Horsey Hundred from Georgetown and one of the routes went through Versailles. It is a beautiful area with lots of very, very scenic country roads which are tree lined. It may have been there.

There's tons of stuff to do in the ville. Churchill Downs is incredible, the Louisville Slugger Museum. Also if you're into the bar scene you should check out 4th Street Live or the Highlands bar district. Tons of great local eateries! For Pizza check out Wick's (its in the highlands...where there are lots of great bars). Just south of Louisville is Bardstown...nice little trek if you're into the Bourbon distilleries...you're super close to Jim Beam...and not too far from Maker's Mark....and while you're there you can see My Old Kentucky Home state park.

oh how i miss this part of the country!! it's pretty much where i grew up...just outside of e-town in ft. knox :D

i'd highly recommend taking a trip to mammoth cave...amazing stuff there! there are a bunch of different tours that you can take...the one featuring the stalagtites/stalagmites was my favorite...cold, but awesome.

"my old kentucky home" just reminds of 3rd grade field trips :)
  • Sweet! Thanks for the recommendations!

We're definitely going to Mammoth Cave and there's a good chance we'll make it to at least one of those distilleries. We're going to the JD Distillery so we might as well try and catch them all! :)

Man, these next 18 days are gonna seem like a year!
