I know theres alot of New Yorkers who can help me out. Im travelling to NYC for 4 nights June 30 to July 4, any suggestions on hotels to stay in the city. Preferably walking distance to all the action and as safe an area as possible.
thanks

To be close to the "action"- its going to cost you. How much are you willing to spend?

You would be better off going out into the boroughs (Queens would be better), or out to Jersey City and just take the PATH into the city.

You can always try priceline and see if you can get something cheaper.

But NYC(city center) is expensive- especially in the summer. Good luck!

Stay at a hostel in nyc. Don't know how old you are. But hostels are cheap, I think. If ya get a hotel get one around 50th street or lower. Thats within walking distance of the main touristy areas.

there are plenty of decent hotels in the 200 range

below that you start to get shady

and watch out the hotel taxes, when you book a room that is 175 a night, the bill will be over $200

Also if you are driving watch out for parking. When I went (I drove) pretty much everywhere I looked at for staying had no parking. I ended up dropping my car in a lot and left it there the whole week and took the subway everywhere, I ended up paying like 36 bucks a day just for parking. Not really a whole lot you can do about it, since that price seemed pretty standard. But just something you should be aware of before you go.

i work in hotels and i'm telling you NYC hotel's are struggling big time. you will definitely get a reasonable rate for your stay practically anywhere on the island. someone said $200 a night... that is pretty accurate in these times. and yeah, watch out for the taxes as well. you will be charged sales tax, municiple tax, and a flat occupancy tax.

stay in mid-town... tons do to, plus a short cab ride/subway up to central park or down to the village/piers/financial district.

you can always stay in jersey and commute across the river.

the W hotel they just opened up in Hoboken is top notch. but i don't know how you feel about shelling out $400-$500 a night.

    beautiful place though!

I'd priceline something in the city first, see what comes up. You're always better off staying in the city.

Don't worry about being "near stuff." In NYC, you're always near something. And the subway is the best in the world. You can get anywhere you need to go cheaply and fairly quickly.

Do not rent a car. Do not.

    thanks for the advise.
I was looking at The Time, looks fairly decent and clean. 3star. Intersection is Broadway and 49th. Anyone heard of this hotel? It seems pretty close to all the action.

4 nights and flight from Toronto only costing $1100cdn for my girlfriend and I. NYC seems really cheap nowadays, im sure it all has to do with the economy.

I used to live on Long Island, and one of my friends who still lives on Long Island (only like 30 miles away) will treat himself to a hotel room in NYC just to have fun in the city without having to drive home. He's told me that he'll put a certain number of stars into priceline, and a very low price, and he's been surprised on some of the great deals

You can take a cab to pretty much anywhere in NYC, so keep that in mind that if you find a reasonable price on a hotel in The Village, it's just a taxi ride or subway ride to Midtown, etc. :)

I'd recommend staying on Manhattan proper, as opposed to Queens etc. Transportation can be hard to figure out or spotty when leaving Manhattan, plus bridges and tunnels will be up to $7 per trip to go thru (at least the last time I was there)

...and don't drive unless you've got a lot of money.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
