Down. Fall by the wayside... no getting out...
Down. Cry me a river... dried up and dammed.
The names can be changed... but the place is still the same.
I am loaded. Told that all's for naught. Holds me down.

Rise. Life is in motion. I'm stuck in line.
Oh rise. You can't be neutral on a moving train.
One day... the symptoms fade. Think I'll throw these pills away.
And if hope could grow from dirt like me. It can be done.

Won't let the light escape from me.
Won't let the darkness swallow me.

Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

    best ever? with a catalogue like pj's, not even close.
    however, it is still a fantastic, uplifting song. love it!

    the tune is too classical
    and the lyrics are too..clear
    i definitely prefer some hidden things

    I long ago gave up on the idea of top 10.

    When it comes to Pearl Jam, I have a top song that changes periodically, and everything else is tied for 2nd place...well, maybe not "Bugs," but I digress.

    Down is fantastic and immediately grabbed me, heard it live before Lost Dogs was released...best ever?? I don't know. If someone held a gun to my head I'd probably go with something more epic...just my taste...but a great song nonetheless...

    until i hear differently, I Am Mine is my fav of all-time

    now if I could only remember the b-side to that single
    they go together so well

    the thing that amazes me the most about Down is where Eddie was in his personal life when that song was written

    hahahha, well said. to me this song is a huge turning point in the bands career. A lot of their songs are uplifting for some odd reason, but this song is uplifting just because it's uplifting. If that makes sense, im hungover right now...

    Never understood the hype. I like the song alot, but I dont think its even close to their best. Sad is definately a better B side
