Yeah, I hopped on that train a while back. I like it better now that I have more friends i know on there, and the fact that I can follow Phish and PJ and fans of both if they are interesting enough. :)

Yeah my MySpace account is long gone, but I enjoy my facebook for keeping in touch w/ friends...I'm not too into the stupid apps. I've gotten in touch with some great people from my past. I also kind of have to get into all those networks and try them out since I do web design and many clients are jumping on the wagon for their businesses or bands. :D Some of the things about it annoy the hell out of me, but on the other hand, I understand why they exist.

I think these "status" updates are great when they are cool - or for hearing a quick news tidbit about a band I like...like phish setlist broadcasting live. But I couldn't give a rats ass if my friend's status update says they are sitting in front of the tv watching their fav show eating ice cream...those pointless twitters and stat updates I can do without.

It's probably great fun when you're young and single, but I have absolutely no use for it. Shit's gotten way too complicated these days. Do the kids ever just go read a book at a park these days or is that soooo 2001?
  • DesignVHLDesignVHL Posts: 297
Well I mean come on, there's a difference between writing a few things a day, as opposed to checking your twitters every 10 mins and obsessing. I don't think it's replacing time with a good book. Also, not sure what your definition of young is. :P Most people I know who are using twitter are over 30, half are married, and many I know use it for business networking - and it's effective. It is also being used for finding jobs, reading quick news announcements, and just a way to communicate with friends in a "social circle" not unlike this message board. Message boards are actually VERY SLOWLY making their way out, and is a fad in and of itself.

Aside from that I don't' want or mean to sound like a twitter advocate or anything, all of these social networks serve a similar purpose. They come up and drop out like flies, and there are TONS of them - especially for music. Some just last longer than others. Still, it is interesting to watch how the internet and communication is evolving...because really that is all Twitter is, a micro-social communication tool. Technology moves fast, if you don't keep up, your going to get left behind.

Just my take on it all.

FWIW, if it weren't for me following PJ on Twitter, I am not sure if I'd have tickets to the Chicago PJ shows right now. I got my emails way later - for all I know tix could have been sold out in the 10c by then!
