Matt's New Drums

I've been crying for him to return to the Ayottes for years now. This new Yamaha set looks and sounds a lot closer to the Ayottes. They sounded great and I hope he continues with them from now on. Anyone know what the difference is with the wood, etc.? Drum techs?

    I don't know much about Drums, but I do know that Matts last kit only had a bass drum. This new kit looks more like something he can work with.

    Yeah he did use a black kit last year? Not sure if thats the same one but the skins seem to be different? Not sure if it was the sound quality but his soundw as a lot more flatter like the Ayottes.

    I'm not a drum tech, but a drummer of about 25 years. I thought they looked sweet but I was not happy with the sound on my stereo from the Conan show. I'm hoping it was just the mix. I'd bet that MC went to Yamaha and said "make these Ayottes with your label on them".

    The best I could tell from the Conan show and recent photos is it seems he's using clear Remo weather king heads.

    I'm waiting for 12345AGNST1 to chime in because he's a big fan of the Ayottes.

    lol, that was a joke. The bass drum was huge, and had a great, deep sound live. It was the only part I liked about that kit.

    Is it possible that the kit he used on Conan was a loaner?? While I can see the guys bringing guitars, I would find it a hassel for him to bring his whote set-up for 3 minutes? I would think that he would just tell them that "hey...this is what I need, please." Just a thought...:-)

    I really have no idea about the set. But heres what I think: The band does read the message boards, alot of people said they wanted matt to bring back his Ayotte set. Matt was like "well alright, I have a contract with yamaha so I cant do that, ill just make it like my Ayotte kit."

    The drums look freakin awesome. I think the toms did sound a little flat after listening, but they sounded louder and I think they are a step up. Its kinda early to say anything though.

    One this is for sure and theres no way in hell that was the same snare from 2000. He seriously needs to use that snare again.

    The new kit is an Oak kit made by Yammaha, with wood hoops. which looks like he used on the new album. The other black kit he played that was black was the steve gadd kit that yammaha only made a few hundred of I believe... but they are two different kits/different wood. I think these sound deeper and warmer just from hearing them on the conan show compared to his bright sounding birch kit, which I like, but if you want his old ayotte sound, seems like this oak kit is where it's at.

    Good!! Working my ass off...Playing alot of golf and just kind of enjoying things for a change. Nothing real pressing. FINALLY got some nice weather! Aside from the fact they have torn up my ENTIRE neighborhood to put in the sewer and things are a GIANT f-ing dustbowl....Good to go!! :-)
