Poor Rick Porcello. He's 20 years old, won 5 straight games, and the Detroit network was grilling him like today's game was a total failure and his career is over. He gave up 3 runs to one of the best teams in baseball and then ran up against his pitch count... hardly a bad outing for a guy that was in high school 2 years ago. Did they think he'd win every game for the rest of the season?

But man was that 9th inning tense. I thought the Tigers might pull off a miracle, but Papelbon (can't spell his name) is fierce. Kudos to that guy. Detroit better not keep piling runners onto the bases and then leaving them there or this could be an ugly series! Too many stupid mistakes on the basepaths gave Dice an easy double play out of a jam.

Bring this thread back in mid August around hurricane season and let's see where things stand. I hope the Yankees can still fill that brand spanking new stadium.

True. There were high hopes dashed last season that started soaring a bit unrealistically early this season. I hope he can keep his head on straight and keep doing what he's been doing. That guy's got amazing poise on the mound for only being 20.

And Granderson and Ordonez need to learn to see where those balls are going before they take off running!

    That is why I'm excited.

But all kidding aside, they're playing like the best team in baseball right now...its quite unbelievable.

Considering the Yanks have spent $1,583,661,697 since their last World Series title, I'm not worried they're in first in June.

If you ask me, the Tigers have overachieved so far this season. There have been so many guys step up. Porcello, Inge, Santiago, Anderson, Laird, even the headcase Dontrell Willis has been playing well. If they keep playing the way they played in May, they will be playing in Sept.

They are always scheduled to play in Sept., but over the last few years, their season has been over long before. If they are still in the pennant race at the beginning of Sept., it could be an interesting fall for the Tigers.

To me its shaping up like 06. Except i think the Tigers will win the division this year. They have solid pitching. Im not deterred by being swept by boston. they had Matsusaka, Beckett, and Wakefield going. We had Porcello, Gallaragga, and Willis. Its a different story if Verlander and Jackson had been pitching.

They do need another bat. Hopefully Guillen can come back and DH a little.

Yeah- I think 85 wins takes the surprisingly bad AL central. The last few years it has been so good, but this time around, it seems like everyone except for Detroit and KC have taken a step back.

They somehow slipped into second place, albeit still below .500. KC has already apparently come unglued. I have to admit to loving the fact that the Tigers have won 3 out of 4 (and by extension, the series) against the White Sox on the road... they always struggle with that tame, but they've really reached down and pulled out some huge wins in close games. It's been the kind of series that really shows the character of your team.

Though they need to sort out their starting pitching... Bonderman? Willis? Galaraga? Miner? Who's in?

it does seem like the central is gonna be a mediocre division at best. bodes well for us
