Much discussion about Devo after last night's PJ performance ... so, figured I'd start a thread ...

Personally, I love a lot of their stuff .... sadly, never got to see them live (and think I'd be let down if I went to see them now).

I love seeing these old performances of them ...

Girl U Want* - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX4E5UgP6gc

probably my favorite song ....
Freedom of Choice - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SDdq59WPCI

From Letterman - 1982
That's Good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkZwHVM64qg

The song that's causing some of the fuss ...
Gut Feeling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qcw67KL ... re=related

... and hey, they were even animated in that cult classic movie Heavy Metal from 1981!

Through Being Cool - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PZjtiikneI

* I know Soundgarden covered Girl U Want, I thought that was awful. But, sometime in the mid 90s, a Boston band I love dearly, Buffalo Tom, covered Gril U Want live at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA ... and the place went berserk ... good times!

For some reason or another, people have been saying the song last night was sort of, er, Devo-esque I guess you could say?

I had a friend in high-school that was pretty big on them...the only kid I ever knew to have a Devo shirt, lol. Interesting fact too, Mark Mothersbaugh and I'm sure other members of the band have done a lot of musical writing for cartoons and kids television programs.

Rugrats was a big show on Nickelodeon when I was a sprout and I rememer seeing the name on the credits...years later, it all makes sense :)

My favorite DEVO songs are 'Gut Feeling/Slap your Mammy', 'Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA', 'Gates Of Steel', 'Mongoloid', 'Jocko Homo', 'Clockout', 'Uncontrolable Urge', 'Be Stiff' and 'Come Back Jonee'.
They were a great band in the late 70s/early 80s and put on one of the strangest, most innovative shows of the time. And no one else could pull of such a warped cover of one of the most recognized Rock standards, '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'... except DEVO.

And you can't forget Human Highway. Neil Youngs film with Devo:

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

actually i have never heard about that till today...thanks!...heres the wiki quote

Human Highway is a 1982 comedy film starring and co-directed by Neil Young under his pseudonym Bernard Shakey. Dean Stockwell co-directed the film and acted along with Russ Tamblyn, Dennis Hopper, and the post-punk and new wave band Devo. Included is an unusual collaborative performance of "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" by Devo and Neil Young with Booji Boy singing lead vocals and Young playing lead guitar.
