Just heard this on the radio this morning. No official word from the band yet, but news leaks are saying they've had another guitarist in the fold for quite a while now. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here. Hopefully this'll shake them out of the mediocrity of Stadium Arcadium.

Good for him. Bad for the Peppers.

He is quite a talent at guitar.

I think its time they hang it up anyway. Don't try to replace him.

    Agreed.

I have liked everything the Peppers have put out with him...haven't been able to get into the rest.

    Bummer.

Great guitarist and stage presence. Saw them in 2006 and his number of solos he did during the show were outstanding. If this is true, I hope they find a better guitarist that Dave Navarro. I didn't like the Chili's the years he was with them.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

John is a brilliant guitarist, one of the best but I think this had to be done, should have made this decision A LOT EARLIER!
I think apart from the qualities of Blood Sugar Sex Magik their cooperation with Dave Navarro was their best period, Californication was a safe but still very good record
but anything since that was just repetitive, unremarkable, limp pop shit...John became grey and part of a big uncreative safe mediocre machine...
I wouldn't really care if they had broken up because they lost IT many years ago and I haven't found anything I loved in their music since Dave Navarro's departure. They ain't no fuckin PJ, absolutely the opposite...

Love John I wish him well but what does that leave for this freefalling band?

  • the peppers will be making even more horrible records if he's gone. stadium arcadium was the beginning of the end. californication and by the way were their best records musically. without john they have no creativity. i would have checked out too had i had to work on that shit of a record stadium arcadium
    nothing as it seems.....

You apparently have even listened to By the Way or given Stadium Arcadium a fair chance.

Knowing the Chilis had become a different band I've always been able to take By The way and Stadium Arcadium for what thye were. Easy listening, great hooks, fun records.

John will be missed. Having said that they will never create a BSSM with or without him. Will be interesting to see what they do next

One Hot Minute w/ Dave Navarro was a great album. Californication was good then everything has been pretty bad since. They seem to have zero gas left. Maybe a new guitarist can funk them up again.

Are you people for real?? Realistically, By The Way pisses all over BSSM and SA has the most quality songs out of any album in their catalog.

I'm a big fan of BTW but Blood Sugar is infinitly better. Not even close

Realistically, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Unfortunately for you, nobody is going to agree with that opinion.
  • Hopefully this'll shake them out of the mediocrity of Stadium Arcadium.

Or, better yet, the mediocrity of every album since Blood Sugar... But I seriously doubt we could be that lucky.
