Sign me up. I'll be the promoter. It can't be that different from running political campaigns...can it?

Yeah, trust me, you won't regret it. They are my second favorite band behind pearl jam. Start with the album The Remote Part. It is probably their best, and the song remote part/scottish fiction is pure genius.0

I love Idlewild they are an amazing band. I did the pre-order thing too but I'm sad to say that I think their new album is their worst. It has grown on me and there is probably only one track, maybe two that I think are bad songs but it still disappoints me, especially since prior to this album I thought that each new album was better than the one before it.
I would without any hesitation do the pre-order thing again.0 -
I've been listening to the three albums I ordered non-stop for the past couple of days. I'm getting into them. A lot of the way that the singer phrases his lyrics reminds me of Morrisey with REM standing in as the backing band. Overall very cool though.
The two songs I'm digging the most so far is American English and Love will lead us from Lonlieness, but there are plenty of other songs that I enjoy. I still need like a week or two before I can really tell what stays with me.It's all about the music...

I remember being floored when I first heard "American English" at Bonner Springs in 2003. I kept saying, "there's no way this song shouldn't be huge in America...no way". I still believe that today. There is an awesome studio acoustic version of "Love Steals Us From Lonlieness" that was released on something. I used to have it but now I can't find it anywhere. Anyone have that?0 -

I have it. It was a b-side to one of the Warnings/Promises singles. I have all of their b-sides. I won't have time to put them up anywhere until after the Euro PJ tour-I'm going to all 5. If someone wants to PM me for the b-sides after the Euro tour, you're welcome to remind me.
I travelled with Idlewild on the 2003 PJ US tour, as they're my friends and know I love PJ. Backstage passes, met PJ, the works. Really good fun. I'll never forget the rain at Bonner Springs, I've never seen rain like it in my life! My missus worked some magic and somehow kept our PJ poster dry and safe. I'll never forget Release: Ed singing 'oh dear dad', then a crack of lightning in the sky and Ed saying 'Hi dad'-fucking brilliant. And Mc Cready fulling on his stomach during the Even Flow solo (slipped on the wet stage) and didn't miss a note. And Ed slamming the mic stand down on the stage after Go and storming off. Good times. The lads in Idlewild said that PJ were late taking the stage that night coz of the storm-they were debating whether to cancel their set. My friend Gav who used to play bass in Idlewild said: 'they're talking about a Tibet concert'-I explained that a girl got electrocuted during a storm during PJ's set at one of the Tibetan Freedom Concerts talking on her phone (struck by lightning). So there you go-PJ nearly didn't play that night in Bonner Springs. Bit of inside knowledge for you!My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.0 -
And for anyone interested, Idlewild played the same set every night when they supported PJ in America/Canada in 2003. Here's the setlist:
Little Discourage
You Held the World in Your Arms
I Am What I Am Not
I'm a Message
Tell Me Ten Words
These Wooden Ideas
Modern Way of Letting Go
American English
When I Argue I See Shapes
A Film for the Future
Roseablilty

Wow! Very cool. That was a hell of a concert though and one hell of a experience. If you wouldn't mind when you get back I'd be very interested in the acoustic Love Steals Us From...0 -
Here's a show I taped last year. Direct download via megaupload. It's a 'b-sides and rarities' gig, featuring b-sides and rarely played deep cuts from their albums. The quality's a bit rough, but it's a fabulous show:
2008 04 04: Byblos, Glasgow, Scotland
Recorded 3rd row in front of stage right onstage PA stacks.
Sony ECM 717 Stereo Mics-->Sony NH 900 MiniDisc-->CD Wave-->320kbps mp3.

Idlewild? Yes I own them all except for Captain, and really dug each piece as I recieved them. I tend to play Hope Is Important and Warnings/ Promises the most. Post Electric Blues took me the longest to get into, but I do dig it... 100 Broken Windows and The Remote Part I believe I just burned them out.E. Thanks for that. They're still growing on me, but they're doing it very quickly. As a matter of fact I think I need to order a couple of more of their disc's, just for research, ya know

Alright, I've had The Remote Part in my CD player non-stop for about 2 weeks straight. Now that I've had some time to really digest their music and live with it for a little while I think it's safe for me to say...
...I really love this band! The Remote Part is one of those few albums that I can listen to from start to finish. It's pure genius. How did I not hear about this band before now? Oh well, the important thing is I know of them now, and can enjoy them on a daily basis. Another cool thing is I've only got 3 of their CD's so far, so that means they've still got "new" music for me to explore.
A big thanks to everyone who reccomended them to me and gave me their opinion as to where to start with them and where to go from here.
"You Held The World In Your Arms", "A Modern Way Of Letting Go", "American English", "I Never Wanted", "(I Am) What I Am Not", and "Live In A Hiding Place", is like a grand slam of incredible songs. What a way to start out (and follow through) with an album. It remindes me of Ten - there are no songs that I skip, and after one song ends I feel like I want to play it again, but as I move to push the repeat button the begining chords of the next song rings out and I'm instantly hooked into that one.
Sorry to ramble on, but I've been looking for a new band to get in to for about 6 months, and after a few false starts I've finally found one. This is cause for celebration.
I am still wondering why they've got a bad rap around here though? It's all about the music...

Hipsters thinking anything "pop-rock"= crap. Idlewild are one hell of a band.0 -
Glad you found this band now. They are probably my third favorite band. I know you don't have all the albums yet, but I highly recommend their b sides album and their live dvd. The dvd is fantastic and you won't take it out of your dvd player for a while, trust me. does anyone else have their dvd.0
