Something I noticed about the fans

I've been a fan for a long time, forgot to renew a couple times. But as I've been reading not only these boards, but the PJ Sharing/Swap/Request group on FB, there's one thing that would describe typical fans. GLUTTONOUS. The number of requests alone on the FB group is laughable. Where do all these people think that they're going to get 10c tix for multiple shows? And not only that, but GA, and not only THAT, but they are dead set for getting the rail. (I'm guessing that a lot of people dream...)
Gluttonous
glut·ton·ous (gltn-s)
adj.
1. Given to or marked by gluttony.
2. Indulging in something, such as an activity, to excess; voracious.
Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items to the point of extravagance...is also one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Now, I've been going to shows for over 20 years now, and experience is everything. Traveling with the Dead was cool for some, but I was lucky to get to a few shows; after all, I was a kid and had no money and didn't want to live the dirty life. But PJ fans? They're similar except for one thing - they have bottomless wallets. ONE show? Ha, I haven't come across one person who is fine going to one show, it has to be 6, 7, 8 of them. And one show per city isn't enough, they have to have more, more, MORE! Not one show in Seattle, but dammit, TWO. Worcester got two, so let's bitch til we get more. Not qualified to enter the 2nd lottery for Worcester? Let's bitch about that. Gluttony, gluttony, GLUTTONY.
I know that I am lucky enough to see two shows this tour, didn't win anything in the lottery, yet I'm grateful for public sale and spouse who happened to win the lottery. "Wow, two shows this tour, Honey? We're styling!" Yet, I hear nothing but spoiled brats cry and moan that 5 shows aren't enough, as well as only one show in their town.
No wonder this place gets bad wraps. It's pathetic.

"bad wraps"...try corn tortillas for your next wrap. They add so much more flavor than the white flour ones. Just remember to heat them up a bit first or else they tend to break apart.0

This. At least occasionally the bitching threads are actually spot on and serve as a means for improvement (a segment here were successful in getting the lottery for example... I don't really like it, but hey, the threads about F5 worked).
Does OP seek improvement on this so called gluttony or is he just looking to call people out?0 -
It's tour time and people are tourhorny. Not everybody can afford to travel overseas to see their favourite band, so people are saving for their "tour fund" for the time when they come back within their reach. The GA floor is new to the US, so of course people are keen on getting as close as possible. I don't need to be on the rail to have fun, but man, if it's the big thing for some, let them have it
As for several shows ... I have never done as many shows as I'm going to this year. I am 35 right now, married and with no children. I don't know if I will be able to do this again, my life situation or musical taste might change or whatever. Right now I have the tour bug, and I scrambled up the money to have some fun in the fall. I'm from Germany, but have moved to the midwest last October. I have yet to see a lot of America, and I am excited to explore more places while going to shows
From my experience I can tell you that it is a blast going to back-to-back shows. No show is the same, that's why people are so keen on going to as many as possible. And of course everybody wants to have the best tickets they can get. We have tickets for both Philly shows and made the funds available to also go and see them in Seattle. A second Seattle show would be super cool. But if it doesn't happen, then one is still a dream come true!
No bottomless wallet here. We will have to keep a low profile for the rest of the year, but I know that we're gonna have a fantastic time. And the memories of this special fall will stay with us for the rest of our lives
And in the end, it's not your money and time. Why even bother?
Cheer up and enjoy your shows :wave:Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -

Honestly - know what I notice. Great people. I have made a handfull of friends on here that I trust I will keep for life - some I may never even meet in person (even tho I shall try). When we were in London - my wife kept commenting on how nice everyone was - in our hotel (dominated by PJ'ers) - at the preparty - and at the concert. Lovely people.
Understanding - bitchers are in every community. Rarely is the complete population completely satisfied. And a percentage (I'd like to claim it as "small") voice their displeasure.Your Disciples Are Riddled With Metaphors.

Totally agree. There's always going to be a vocal minority of complainers. I've complained myself from time-to-time.
But ultimately, any fan club member I've met in person has been pretty cool and fun to be around. It makes sense, we all have one thing in common!0 -

Uhh.... I definitely do not have a lot of money, and neither do most (if any) of the other fans I've met who have traveled to shows. For the most part we scrimp and save and deny ourselves other luxuries (or get into big time debt) to be able to do this kind of thing. Also, I am only going to 1 show this tour, MAYBE 2 if things work out. But most of those who do go to several shows in a tour do not have tons of money either. They save up. So basically. I think you're totally wrong in your perception of what is going on with most PJ fans, and are applying what is true for a tiny minority to a large group. That goes for how much money people have, and how much people complain. There is just a very small but vocal minority that you're allowing to colour your judgement of the whole.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. I save up all my vacation time and money to follow PJ to as many shows as I can. I haven't seen them in 2 years because I wait for them to come to the Westcoast so I can see more shows instead of spending the same amount of money to get to somewhere far away and only see one show. It's not gluttonous, it's priorities.
I wouldn't expect someone outside of the fanbase to understand, but for me, seeing 8 shows over 2 weeks is the best vacation ever. When someone tells me they're going to a resort in Mexico for two weeks, I know they have different priorities than me, but I think that is exactly as gluttonous a vacation plans as mine is, just in a different way. Isn't a vacation supposed to be about living it up?0 -

Practice what you preach... find someone with no tickets and sell them one of your shows. Be happy with one.0 -

, c'mon man, you are generalizing a large number of people. That's not in the spirit of the Grateful Dead now is it?
