About Seattle Humane Society
Every year, the Seattle Humane Society welcomes thousands of abandoned puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, rodents, birds and other companion animals into their shelter. With your generous support, they are able to find homes for these animals. The extra time, care, and attention they give each shelter guest makes them the leader in animal welfare in our community.

This post is so disappointing. The sites above are either funded are set up by the Centre For Consumer Freedom. This group represents the interests of alcohol, pharmaceutical and animal abusing industries. In the past they have even worked to disparage Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Do some research into the CCF and learn about the evil fuckers that run this group. Not saying HSUS hasn't made some mistakes, but you should be aware of the spin put on these stories by groups that profit from continued animal expoloitation.

As for animals, if you believe non-human animals should be abused and killed for human want, then that is your opinion. But if you believe that all sentient beings should be treated with respect and that non-violence is better than exploitation, support groups like HSUS, PETA, Farm Sanctuary, Mercy For Animals, VeganThis.org, In Defense of Animals. etc. In the end, there is no difference between your pet dog or the lamb at the abbatoir.

HSUS's financial "irregularities" are well-know. The portion of their profits that goes to funding actual animal-welfare projects is suspiciously low. In fact, it's more of a money-making venture than a charity. They spend ridiculous amounts of $$$ on lobbying, which should bring into question their tax-exempt status as a charity.

In the end, there is no difference between PETA/HSUS and Operation Rescue. Both groups are hell-bent on eliminating choices and taking away rights from American citizens. If PETA had their way, we'd all be pasty malnourished vegans. If Operation Rescue had their way, there would be no "right to choose." I don't care if you make a choice to become a vegan, and I don't care if you make a choice to have an abortion, but when you start pushing your own political or religious views onto society against their will that's just wrong.

Good Job Kat and 10c crew! Looks like the rain let up enough to make for a nice refreshing walk... :D
I organized a group at my old work (a vet clinic) for the Furry 5K a few years back. It's a great team builder and a wonderful way to help the animals!

For the last 5 years, my car has been sporting a 'We love Our Pets' vanity plate...so I make my donations to organizations all over the state :)

    Again, GO TEAM LOST DOGS!
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

  • Way cool!! And get rid of the gas chambers, the heart stick, and politicians who support them for their own benefit! If you are outside of Seattle area, please support your local shelters and ethical rescue groups.

I vote for the Team Lost Dogs hoodies!!

  • I have been doing rescue work in the East Coast for about 10 years now. While both PETA and HSUS do some good, PETA is the extremerist and it has been so difficult to save pets in some VA shelters controlled by PETA.
While HSUS seems to focus on using money on real estate develoopment

According to an application that HSUS filed in 2007 with the city of Gaithersburg, Maryland, its headquarters complex has 62,000 square feet of office space.

And that application? It was for permission to build another 300,000 square feet of office space. Plus at least 250 residential homes.

If there are supporters of PETA and HSUS, I am sorry. But they have not helped anything for us who have been trying to help dogs in shelters, or for those who have been trying to improve shelter operations in the rural area.

So again support your local shelters and ethcal rescue groups!
