PEARL JAM- OF THE EARTH (NEW SONG OR IS IT?)
I googled Of The Earth which was played in Dublin on June 22, 2010. What came up is an article from 2005 when PJ was about to tour and was making Self Titled album.

Ament singled out two other tracks as his current favorites. "One is called 'Of The Earth,' that's a song Ed wrote that is kind of a cross between early Peter Gabriel/ Genesis and Sleater-Kinney with, like, the Who's Live at Leeds or something.
According to this interview/article, Of The Earth is an Avocado outtake.

There's also a song that Stone brought in that Ed wrote some great lyrics to [a song] called 'Parachutes.' That's probably one of my favorite pieces of music that Stone has written in a long time. It's got a beautiful melody."
Anyone got a link yet?

It sounded great, Mike pit in sone great lead work. There were some interesting tempo changes. A few people have posted elsewhere that it sounded like In The Moonlight. I didn't hear that at all.
Overall, pretty great. Dublin has always had a treat or two!
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
Chasing something in the night.
No, I don't have it. But I know of its existance.
I remember Mr. Ament talking maybe 5 years back how they should start doing a better job of carrying over material from era to era instead of not looking back and always starting fresh.
It's not just a Pearl Jam thing. "Tough," by U2 was "around for a long time," according to Mr. Bono, before it became "Sometimes You Can't Make it...", which is a terrific song, but didn't need that very first chorus.

No, none of those actually had any lyrics, other than Of The Earth (which only had Eddie's vocal of "of the earth" over and over, no other lyrics)...so combined with the story from avocado-era, it was wise to assume it was re-recorded/re-structured for backspacer, but never panned out.
