Really don't see the issue people have with Backspacer, I enjoy that album. The great thing with PJ is that albums are different.

    My sentiments exactly

I like at least half of Backspacer a lot.

The opening to the first four tracks are awesome, Just Breathe is beautiful, Unthought Known is inspirational etc. I believe it was Jeff who said "we always wanted to be that chameleon band like Led Zeppelin." (loose quote)

    I'll take Backspacer any day.

    Wind this thing up.

I love that quote of Jeff's - always remember it because LZ is one of my three favorite bands of all.time. :)
I do like much of Backspacer, but it also has a few of my least favorite PJ songs ever - Super Sonic and Force of Nature are big stinkers in particular for me.But I love Amongst the Waves and Unthought Known (despite that gems and rhinestones line, which distracts me), and a lot of the others are pretty good.

I may be wrong but I don't recall seeing sirens on any of the questionably legit tracklists so far, right?

Comparing a new song to an epic classic is just promoting disappointment and failure. I want it to be great on its own without comparison. Damn media always fucks it up.

    Wind this thing up.

agreed, for the most part. the problem backspacer has been the same problem all of their records have had since the turn of the century (haha--i like saying that): they're way too inconsistent. this was not a problem in the 90's. everything since has had quite a few brilliant moments mixed with a bunch of mediocre songs. i still love every album though...............and with that said, perhaps if zeppelin was around for as long as pj has been, perhaps they'd have the same issue. so i guess this is to be expected.

Sirens sounds better than Coal Mine Fuckers though... Even though, admitably, the last title leaves more to the imagination. I can btw see a stronger "Black" connection in the last title. (Dark, stuck in a tunnel, no sunlight, working for the coals, tunneling your way through - well, you get it.)

Is there any news on the other two songs? I believe that the original poster at alternative nation spoke of four songs???

I'm trying to get more information from this guy. He said he seconds the things PureandEasy posted in this thread http://community.pearljam.com/viewtopic ... 4&t=210045

    I'd never doubt pureandeasy. Xoxo

That said, to me, Black represents. Not just a song, but a time in my life when I turned toward music (and this band) and along the way, found not only the love of my life -but some of the best people one could ever hope to share this life with. (Ok, had a couple beers with my Sirens listening party its true). Although to me Sirens is no Black, I celebrate
that members of the band (and some fans like me) have profound love in our lives after all the dark times. SIRENS is a great reprise.
