Riot Act: How has your view of it changed after 14+ years?

We haven't had a Riot Act thread in awhile and I'm curious as to how fans' feel about that album after over 14 yeas since it's release. Let's do a quick poll and see what'cha all think. Riot Act is one of those PJ albums that seems to have a distinct love it or hate it reaction amongst fans.

I'll say for the record it is one of my favorites. It's the album that got me re-interested in Pearl Jam again after a few years of not paying much attention to the band.

Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I appreciate it a little more but can't say I love it. I do like they put a lot of songs on the album. Seems like pulling teeth to get songs together now.

I like a few songs but definitely my least favorite pearl jam album. Riot act is the weakest link lol.

Loved it the minute I threw it in my CD player.

Listened to it on infinite repeat while I was getting our new house ready to move into. Skimcoating and painting walls, trim....I will always love Riot Act!
However, I will not always love skimcoating and painting trim. Walls, I don't mind too much.

I've always felt that Riot Act is one of their more rewarding records. Yes, they may have better records, but I can always seem to find something new to appreciate with RA.

They were too political back then skipped my area shows and didn't listen to the album either. The album is the last great one they made.

Wow! More favorable votes in the early running than I would have expected. When the the curmudgeons get off work?

This album is pretty damn good. There are some weaker songs, sure, but there are some that are absolutely, brilliantly indispensable.

I honestly feel like I would love this album if it opened with Save You and Can't Keep was relegated to Lost Dogs status.

I have to admit I hard a bit of a hard time getting into this song at first and it's a bit out of sync with most of the record, but then I started hearing in it what seems to me the closest thing PJ has done approaching jazz touches and I like that. It's sort of lounge-like number that starts off like a warmup before the stormy "Save You" kicks in.

    This! Well said.

Other than Save You, it didn't grab me at the time of release. There are some skips on there for me - Help, Get Right, maybe bushleaguer - but Thumbing, Green Disease and You Are are so, so good.

I picked the answer that best reflects how I've felt about it after the first few years passed. I initially liked it, but was a tad disappointed. An album that gets a lot of hate and is relegated to the discard pile with Binaural, but I think musically and lyrically is a great album. Some of my favorite tunes are on this album. The second half of this album is fantastic from You Are on. It has aged beautifully and is even more relevant now. I would gladly take another RA style album from them.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I will do cartwheels when RA finally gets re-released on vinyl and, at last, I can finally hear it in glorious analog (or at least as close to analog as it will get)!!

^^^Really the most appropriate choice, I suppose.
Sometimes I listen to it and think its great. Other times I listen to it and feel the songs just don't hold up as well compared to the releases prior to it.

Riot Act brings me back to a really fun time in my life. So it transports me. The album itself is one that i never have the urge to play. "You Are" is about the only one im still into.

It is a deep dark record similar to No Code so it took me a long while to appreciate. It has some of my favorite lyrics on it:
"and the young they can lose hope because they can't see beyond, today the wisdom that the old can't give away."
"Constant recoil!!!! Sometimes life don't leave you alone, mmmmm........"

I like Riot Act. Although there are a few songs on here that I think sound way better live: 'You Are' and '1/2 Full' spring instantly to mind. Also, 'Down' should have been on this album.

I feel like Help Help would be much more loved if he had sung it with a full voice rather than the restrained falsetto he uses. I'd like to hear it sung an octave lower, I think it would really be elevated.

I remember buying this on cd the day it was released and listening to it over and over. It was my senior year of high school. Several great gems on Riot Act. I am Mine, Cropduster, Get Right, Ghost, Save You, Can't Keep.

But it's still my least favorite. There's just too much. I'd much prefer if a few songs got cut.
