I was wondering the same thing yesterday... It's been more than 3 years since the release of Lightning Bolt. I know there will be longer intervals between albums the longer a band stays and plays together, and that's understood... But Jeff and Kelly said the band will play some shows on the West Coast in their Twitter chat with fans earlier this year, and I'm wondering if we might see a new album before then. I doubt we'll see a new album in 2016, but 2017 feels right :-)

Relax everyone. Not happening until fall 2017, can almost guarantee it. Upcoming: Ed solo tour in early spring, Hall of Fame in April (maybe a special one off show?), maybe a few summer dates or short tour, then a new album.
Just my prediction on what would make sense right now. It will be the longest gap between albums I believe.

I agree, late 2017 at the earliest. I am okay with it though, they have toured pretty well for Lightning Bolt, and as long as they don't go into complete hiding for the next year, I'd rather get more shows then an album whenever they're ready.

Agree, more shows would be nice, but I am also looking forward to some new stuff. Hopefully, 2017 will be the year! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7/19/13 - Chicago, IL 10/15/13 - Worcester, MA 8/7/16 - Boston, MA (Fenway 2)

I hope they tour the west coast and australia or somewhere out of the US before new material so then when the new album arrives, they can start it all back up again on the east coast or midwest

I'll add this, if the band doesn't feel like doing a new album yet and would rather tour- throw us a bone with another Lost Dogs so there's at least SOMETHING new to tour on.
Hoping there is no more touring until the new record is done. I love live shows as much as everyone else, but it's time for some new music.

They've reached the Bob Dylan 'Never Ending Tour' stage of their careers. No opener, long sets, don't need a new album as an excuse for touring. Thankfully, Ed sounds much better than Bob.

I dont want another album unless its filled with weird, complicated, creative, inspired, strange 2 minute songs all the way to 10 minute songs, type album.

Probably all that, then they will START the new album. Nothing has been done at this point and no signs anything getting done soon. I'd say late 2018 if we're lucky
I like their process of bringing bit of music into the studio, then all working on it. But I also wish they would do more "lock in" studio time, and just jam, and come up with stuff too. I know they have the process streamlined a bit, and that is pretty good. We get an Ed song, a Mike song, a Stone song, a Jeff song, a Matt song. etc. But I kinda miss those "Written by Ament/Gossard/Vedder" type songs.
Yeah really. I don't think I can take another BS or LB kind of release.
What was wrong with LB? now BS I thought was too poppy and manufactured so I see your point there...I love how everyone has a different opinion so im actually curious...I think Getaway, MYM, Infallible, Pendulum, Sirens, Swallowed Whole, and Lightning Bolt are pretty stand out tracks which is more than 1/2 the album

What was wrong with it is that I hate half the songs, haha. I really don't like this cheezy stuff they are doing now, like Sirens and Future Days and SBM, and LTRP is just plain bad. Even the good songs aren't really great. Not compared to what they did before the Backspacer era. Dr. D mentioned creativity. YES, that is what they need to go back to. They need to get weirder, basically. More experimental, more unique in style. Like they used to do.

you notice after my edit that I left those two songs you listed at the end out..haha...I thought this album was more rockish compared to BS so it was a breath of fresh air, but I get your point I think the Ed solo stuff has seaped in more with the band

If they want to record instead of tour, I'm ok with that too.
We're lucky they're still going.
(But new songs would be great...plus some west coast dates! Ha!)
