Pretty Sad: Days of the New
Days of the New, Actually Travis Meeks was in Grants Pass, Oregon last night. He had some good songs back in the early 90's and then had issues with drugs. He is now touring again! When I heard he was going to be close - I said it would be cool to see him.
Well I do believe he is still using! He did play his good songs, but there was issues, for one the bass player, and drummer kept looking at Travis on what to do next. Sound was up and down, and he had problems with some of his songs.
So if he is in town near you - if you decide to go, you will need to be patient - did I mention that him and the band did there own setup, took close to a hour to get setup. He itched his nose constantly while playing.
It was just painful to watch Travis in that condition.

I also pre-paid for his next album a few months ago, and haven't heard one stinking update since. I even emailed his admin and got no response.

Travis is diagnosed with Asperger's autism & displays several OCD type symptoms. I've seen him 4 times & my husband has seen him 7 (we just saw him last week in AZ). He doesn't even have roadies, always sets up his own guitars. He can be very particular about the set-up, especially the tuning of his guitars & the settings on the sound board. He is very difficult to work with from a professional stand-point. But from all I've heard, he's been clean for about 4+ years, since he was on A&E's "Intervention." I think his 'look' from years of meth abuse (which is irreversible), combined with his autistic behaviors, make it appear that he is still using. But he takes pretty strong offense to accusations about it, so I hope they're not true.
He's asking for people to pre-pay for his album solely to pour into it's release, not for profit. It's been in the works for years... we've all been waiting a long time. He's burned a lot of bridges in the industry, & it really costs a LOT to put out a quality album, esp when ppl don't realize that you still exist. Even if he could get a label, I don't think he'd go for it, cause they would probably destroy his vision for his music.
As far as seeing him live, the OP def has one thing right: be patient. He plays small venues & usually goes on very late after a prolonged break (for set-up time). He usually plays between 5 & 10 songs, many of which have lots of 'jamming' added to them. He doesn't care what requests are yelled out, he's just gonna play what he's planning. But if you appreciate his music & know about his past, you won't be disappointed! We've enjoyed every show thoroughly. He's one of our favorite artists, & I'm so glad someone started a thread... cause I shot some video at the last show. I'm gonna post them on YouTube soon, & I'll post the links here .
PS: regardless of what people suspect of his current condition, the man did not miss a note and his voice was spot on. I give him a lot of credit for pursuing his dream under really tough conditions (this guy was touring with Metalica at 17!). Really hope to hear purple some day.
I saw them 10 years ago in the basement of a little bar, they were just doing a completely impromtu acoustic show & it was amazing. Then I saw them in a slightly bigger venue & decided I was all set with them.
Also think it's completely accurate that Travis is using again. I wouldn't say that's a stretch.
Get your shit together.

Jerry: Sniffing, with his nose.
Kramer: Jerry, he probably had a cold.
Jerry: No, I asked him.
Kramer: So, what are you saying?
Jerry: I don't know, you know, what if...?
Kramer: Drugs? You think he's on drugs?
Jerry: I don't know. All I know he was sniffing.
Kramer: Jerry, listen, we went in on a CD together.
Jerry: I know.
Kramer: And Newman gave you money too. I didn't even meet this guy. We trusted you.
Jerry: Look, it doesn't necessarily mean anything yet, it just means he was sniffing.
Kramer: Well, what else? Was he nervous? Did he use a lot of slang? Did he use the word 'man'?
Jerry: No, he didn't use 'man'.
Kramer: I mean when he was leaving did he say I'm splittin' ?
Jerry: No, but in one point he did use the bathroom.
Kramer: Whoh!
Jerry: Do you think that's a bad sign?
Kramer: Yes!! Yes, that's what they do! They live in the bathroom! All right, what are we going to do? We are going to get our money back, right?
