Help needed re: Thomas framing

the_donthe_don Posts: 512
I just got back from the framers and am second guessing my color choices for the Steve Thomas Fenway print. I used a sky blue mat to match the blue in the poster and then a red frame that comes close to the red but not an exact match. I'm now thinking the red would not really go well around this print - opinions?

I wood use a frame made of ash, bats are made from it, with a nice clear finish.

which color is the undermat and which one is on top? What is the color or type of frame (wood, dark/light, black metallic, etc.)

I only picked one mat, it is sky blue like in the poster. I picked a metal frame (red) - the reason it's metal is because they're putting glass on both sides so I can still see the back, otherwise I would have got wood.

I assume you don't have the variant, so you are using the red frame to pull out the 3-4 pieces of red. I don't think red will bad at all. It's probably the right thing to do. One other option would have been a black metal frame, blue top mat and 3/4 inch red mat under the blue. Easier to hide an imperfect color match with the thin mat.

But the way you are going should look really good. The only thing I would say is that the frame probably should not be too wide. I would probably be most concerned with whether the red frame matches the wall. If it does, then I think it's a good choice.

Thanks for your advice! I may do the double matting you suggested with the red and then a black frame. All of my other posters have a black frame..

Definitely like that look for a baseball poster. I may change my strategy just for the Wrigley's. Is that ordered online?

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. I usually do black frames, all the same, so I can switch them out on the walls since I have so many. But I might do a vintage for Wrigley.
