Is PJ "cool" enough to score the Coachella gig? Don't pay too close attention, but don't they usually have headliners with broader drawing appeal?

Coachella seems to be digging deeper into the annals of rock - AC/DC and Steely Dan in 2015... Just thinking Pearl Jam would be a lovely addition next year :-)

Could totally see that happening. 2015 lineup was terrible...PJ would right their wrongs.

If they headlined, it would be a truncated set as headliners usually play 1.5-2 hours tops. AC/DC and Jack White both played in that range this year.
Would much rather have a couple nights at the Forum.

I saw PJ play Voodoo in 2013 and ACL last year - each set was 2 hours. Each of them solid sets.

They should play it. They created it in 1993.

In the past, I always wanted them to play it. I probably even started threads on "will they play for 2013? etc..." but now I actually really don't think I would.

I've been to Coachellas in 2002 (Oasis), 2012 (Radiohead), and 2013 (Blur & Stone Roses). I love the area, convenience of hotels, so easy flying in from Vancouver, etc..

But the reason I'd be against it now is that since 2013, they've really made an extra step to be super commercial. That's extended to the lineup and has resulted in more pop/mainstream music. The lineups the past two years have been terrible, and the increased amount of sponsorships kind of makes me sick. For example, they had a Sephora (makeup store) sponsored "selfie booth", they had an H & M store on site, complete with a "coachella inspired" line of clothes.

It was always a high profile event that attracted celebrities, etc...but in recent years it's just lost its soul in my opinion. I'd much rather see PJ play destination-type weekends at say Red Rocks, Gorge, etc... where we'd get full massive sets and potentially collaborations with other artists.

PJ20 was like that, a stripped down festival with minimal corporate influence. To me, the most appealing festival this summer was Eaux Claires - a festival in Eau Claire Wisconsin, put on by Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) and Aaron Dessner (of the National), very similar-type festival. Bands hand picked by those two artists, and a more authentic, less commercialized experience.

Coachella is now about making the most money they possibly can off corporate sponsorships whilst spending the least amount of money on the lineup. It is a pure economic exercise. The funny thing is that despite the fact that the lineups have sucked the past two years, the tickets for both weekends have sold out. To me that really shows how many people go there for the "Coachella experience" to scope celebs as opposed to really caring about the quality of the lineup.

Also, they used to draw exciting unique artists or other one-offs and reformations, but in recent years the headliners were artists that all came through Vancouver (and most major USA/Canadian cities), so it kind of lost the lustre of taking the effort to fly to California.

Anyways, that's just my own take...
