Rocker Eddie Vedder will help send late-night host off on a high note

David Letterman is ending his “Late Show” run just as it began.

Tom Hanks and Bill Murray, who were among his first guests, will return for the late-night host’s final shows. Rocker Eddie Vedder will also lend his voice to help send Letterman off on a high note.

Letterman will sign off on May 20.

After 33 years in late night television, 6,028 broadcasts, nearly 20,000 total guest appearances, 16 Emmy Awards and more than 4,600 career Top Ten Lists, David Letterman says goodbye to late night television audiences with the final three broadcasts of the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Monday, May 18 – Wednesday, May 20 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT).

The three-night event kicks off Monday, May 18 with a visit from Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, who first appeared with Letterman on “Late Night” April 4, 1984 and will make his 60th total appearance with the host. Also that night, rock superstar Eddie Vedder will make a special music performance backed by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra.

Bill Murray, Letterman’s first guest on “Late Night’s” debut on Feb. 1, 1982, and his first guest on the LATE SHOW’s August 30, 1993 premiere, makes his 44th overall and final appearance with the host Tuesday, May 19.

These shows all lead up to Letterman’s final LATE SHOW broadcast, Wednesday, May 20, which will be an hour filled with surprises, memorable highlights, the show’s final Top Ten List and more.

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

    Said in the other thread:
Fuck yeah. Tom Waits Friday, Eddie Monday.
Ten bucks says he plays "Letterman"... er, "Betterman."
A cover with Paul and the band would be much cooler though.
They did have a band on who played a Zevon cover a couple weeks ago. Maybe they'll do it again. Bet you Grohl shows up on Wednesday.
