Might have to do with contest laws. There are things in other countries I can't enter.

I think it might have more to do with short turnaround and travel accommodations. Possibly the concern winners would not have current passports or visas or the cost for last minute travel would cause a financial burden on the winner.

There are tax consequences to big prizes like this. The entity running the contest has to issue an income statement to the winner because the fair market value of the prize minus the cost of entry is considered income to the winner and he/she is supposed to report it on their taxes. That is why the fine print of the contest includes info on the value and that is probably why entries have to be limited to US residents.

I assume that is the reason, otherwise they could raise a ton more money by opening it up to everyone, maybe they just can't.

Beyond the contest, I wish they would realize that one-off special events like this are special to us and a webcast or release of something like this is just as important as the tour bootlegs. Metallica releases every show too, but last year they played a four song acoustic set of covers at the MAP Benefit and they put that up for $5 on their site with all proceeds going to the charity. Hell, they even post free mp3s when they play the SSB at Giants games.

Hopefully this special show gets released in its entirety.

Timbo, there is a tax responsibility on the party running the contest and issuing the prize, not just the winner.

I think it's funny that people just assume that they hate international fans and just make these decisions based on personal preference rather than logistics.

I know. Funny how people jump to conclusions. I know there are all kinds of crazy rules and laws for all contests like this where you win a trip or whatever else the prize is...

I'm not blaming the ten club for following the rules, It's just unfortunate that there are rules. Hence, the original post
