The first and only time I've seen U2 live was in the mid 1980s.
They've put out some really great songs over the years since.
I just bought a ticket to see them this tour for $65. ($86. total with taxes & fees) and that wasn't even the cheapest seat available!
The stage set up is "in the round" so how bad can the seat be?
I know what the band looks like so I don't need to see them close up - I'll be there for the MUSIC and I bet it's going to be AWESOME!!!

Bono is such a cretin. Tax dodger and a hypocrite and how anyone can pay money to watch that clown onstage is so far beyond my comprehension

I guess all these people are beyond your comprehension..... (u2.com): Following overwhelming fan demand, including a record-setting 118,000 fans queuing online to purchase tickets in New York, two new shows have been confirmed in New York, Boston, Montreal, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin & Paris
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

The U2 fan who said that is just silly.

Yeah I had two tickets section 213 msg total after fees $ 624 , no way can I justify paying that for any band at all ... It's a shame really ..

Unless they view these ticket prices as socialism and they have a robin hood complex where they are going to use it all for the poor, then these prices are ridiculous and they are excluding a lot of their fan base from the opportunity to see them.

Although, all the shows have sold out for the most part it sounds like so perhaps the prices aren't that bad.
Exactly the fans are paying so if the demand is there they have no reason to charge lower prices but it really is a disgrace ....Take a look at stub hub @-)
Something interesting about Stubhub is that if you make an account, you can openly see what the low, median and high prices are for both tickets which sold, and ones remaining unsold. For example, the median value for unsold tickets in Toronto is $245, with prices as low as $100, and as high as $11,600. For sold tickets, they have gone for as low as $95, and as high as $995, with a median of $151.89.

Looking at the costs on Ticketmaster, prices range from $46.50-$298.50. Key points:
-Unsold tickets are unsold for a reason: the price/value is not there, therefore the buyers aren't.
-People are willing to pay almost twice face value for the worst seats in the house - therefore, the lowest- and second lowest-priced tickets are underpriced
-Over half of Stubhub buyers for the Toronto show have bought tickets worth less than the middle price point (based on face value including fees)

What do I get out of this? U2 could actually make more money:
-Their $46.50 and $113.25 tickets could very easily be raised by $10-20 and to arrive at their optimal profit point.
-Looking at the section-by-section low/median/high sold prices, in the upper levels, people are paying $100-200 per ticket: 1.5ish-4x face value.
-Same deal for lower levels, people are paying $200-600 per ticket: 1.7ish-5x face value.

I really don't find U2's pricing scheme disgraceful: people are responding with their wallets, and the clear message is that the perceived value is actually greater than what U2 puts their ticket prices at.

Jeez, what a long winded report!
It could've just been summed up in the last thirteen words:
"the value is actually greater than what U2 puts their ticket prices at."
Obviously U2 are attempting to give everyone a chance to come to the show.

I like details, evidence, and explanations. I figured some else might too. Thankfully, no one forced you to read my long-winded report!

I used the U2 fan club to get tickets. I used to only renew it on years where they toured but the last few years the yearly gift has been pretty cool (U22 Live CD, U2 360 tour book with another live cd, some book last year, and this year a double live vinyl from an old show). Apparently there's a bit of senoirity but it's minor. IE if you joined the club before they announced the tour you get to buy your tickets a day or two before people who joined after. This made it really easy to get floor tickets and they were $68 + ticketmaster fees. I've been getting floor tickets for the last few tours. I think it's interesting. The seated seats (especially the closer ones) cost an arm and a leg, but they always keep the floor tickets affordable (thus I always go for floor).

As for different setlists. I think the quote was "a different feeling" each night. I'm not sure how much they would actually mix up the setlist. They've never been that kind of band. Maybe swap a few songs... I have to travel to Vancouver for the show so I'm only going to the 2nd one. Like another poster said if it really is two different shows then I really will feel like I missed something.

FWIW, I paid $86 apiece for two floor tickets via the fanclub. That's about what I paid for PJ tickets this year, and is a pretty good deal in both cases.

I do wish U2 had better merch. Their t-shirt designs pale in comparison to PJ and they really have nothing else (like posters, stickers, pins, other event-specific stuff) to speak. Of course, I don't need to worry about in line 5 hours either for said t-shirt and sticker, so that's good too :)

The original rumor was they were going to play 3 nights in each city with each night focusing on one era of the band. That would have been cool.

Also note U2 is supposed to release another album shortly. My guess is each night will focus on one of the new albums. That would suck.

U2 used to be my favorite group but their shows have become too predictable. Wish they could go back to when they had three lights on stage and that was it.

Oh by the way, my GA tix cost $89 each at MSG and my section 216 cost me about $120 each.

The thing is what U2 does it the same thing most bands do. They have a static setlist and maybe they can mix 2 to 4 songs in and out of it every night. This is why for most bands I'm pretty content seeing one show when they tour.

From my experience the only bands I follow that really mix it up from one night to the next are PJ and Springsteen. Both bands play over 3 hours and every night is different. Unfortunately this is abnormal, but we want it to become normal for other bands out there with kickass giant music catalogs.

U2 used to be unpredictable. Maybe not so much the setlist, but more what will Bono do. Case in point, Electric Co at the US festival or dancing with that girl at Live Aid. Maybe they were hungrier back then.

have seen them every tour since 1984 at massey hall. they have always been great. you may not like the prices and his politics as i don't see them handing over gobs of money, but as far as the music goes they are one of the biggest bands in the world. consistently putting out great albums even if you don't like them all. ticket prices are now being run by former scalpers hired by live nation to give them an idea of what the market will bear. sort of like the guy at veggas casinos who make up the lines for betting. ticket prices to a lot of shows except pearl jam are what scalpers would have charged. now it gets even crazier. glad i went to so many shows when it was about the music and could afford to go to 3- 5 shows a week.
