Ed is getting pretty good on that guitar

Last-12-ExitLast-12-Exit Charleston, SC Posts: 8,661
I can remember hearing mistakes on the late 90's boots from Ed. Now, the guy is just nailing it. Especially in the past 5 years. I doubt he will ever be known as a great guitar player, but he really sounds good.

Any thoughts?

I agree! One of the reasons I have so much respect for him is seeing the progress he's made as a musician over the years. Practice, practice, practice. He clearly plays a lot and this is clear in his skills. They say if you love what you do you never work a day in your life.

I agree. I think I truly noticed his greatness on guitar, honestly, during his solo shows. Guitar, uke and all. He's a great musician.

I've been really impressed with his guitar work on LB. Especially live. He dies real well with lightning bolt and swallowed whole.

I saw him in Jax in 2012. Eds definitely got his own style. It's not difficult to point out when he is playing by his strumming and picking style.

I agree, but he's always been accomplished, Immortality is a great chord progression , try playing it and singing it' s not easy. Acoustically he 's one of my favourite guitarists , as Shown in the into the wild soundtrack, guaranteed is a great song. Corduroy is one of the best intro guitar riffs in their catalogue and insignificance I think is the best song he's written IMO . So yeah his guitar is an integral part of the band , just a lot of practice and touring I think makes the art evolve , it's inspiring to see.

Mike said he wishes he could fingerpick as well as Ed does.

Ed's guitar playing has been so good since the 2003 tour that I would wager he is taking lessons ... if not, he has put in a LOT of hours of practice at home. But yeah ... he is an infinitely better player, techinically, than he was in their first decade. Impressive by how much, even.

He's ok. B/B- guitarist A+ vocalist. Sorry, but it's the truth- we don't go to see PJ to listen to Ed play the guitar. The other guys are the guitarists.

Anyone know where Ed's Telecasters went? Saw three shows on this tour and the only electric guitar he played was that white Gibson SG.

That's not quite right. Stone has the funky rhythm, Mike is the lead soloist, and Ed is the finger style master. They all 3 do a different thing and None can match the others in their respective styles.
