John Mellencamp Confused By Lukin

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, they played 5 songs for John Mellencamp and asked for his "Expert Opinion" on each. Lukin was the third song played.

"I think Eddie Vedder is a wonderful songwriter, but I'm not sure I'm really getting what he's trying to say on this one. But I do know he's capable of saying things I can't."

    The back story does help. And if he's looking for typical Ed deeper meaning, he's not going to find it. It is one of the more esoteric songs in the catelog. So, maybe he's shooting too high trying to decipher it and breezing right past meaning. That is if he doesn't literally mean - I have no ideas what he just said.
