Don't worry OP, when this happens, the folks who are saying its a rock show not a rally, will join right in because they don't want to look silly standing there with their arms folded like a bump on a log while everyone else is singing. B-)
"I understand wanting to help get people out to vote, but my opinion is that the system of government in the US is already so far gone that there is no fixing it"
Great attitude! Let's show them we business and not vote in November.

I said its my opinion AND that I didn't want to turn it into a political debate... the great thing about that is, you don't have to like it and I don't have to care whether or not you like it (which I don't if you were wondering...)

Honestly, I hope by October this particular episode is forgotten. Don't get me wrong, I think a pro peace chant/demonstration is always a great and noble idea. I think the sentiment behind what he said should never be forgotten. I just don't want to keep rehashing the same arguments we've had for the last week at every show in the fall. I don't want a pro peace message to be co-opted by pro Israel or pro Palestinian or pro Russian or pro Ukrainian or pro any other faction. I just want to get back to the music.
What I think is interesting is those of us fans who separate the band's music from their politics. Those of us who are likely to think (or yell) "shut up and sing" during a show. I'd like to think that with Ed's recent thoughts on the world, that those who tend to be apathetic to world issues and especially apathetic towards Ed speaking his mind and from his heart onstage (and to the band's politics and views on social issues, which they've been very vocal about since the beginning) would take a moment to open their minds, think about the big picture, and actually care for once.
You don't have to agree, but just listen, give it a chance before knocking ideas and solutions down that would actually do some good for the world. Worldwide negativity and anger is at an all time high right now, there's got to be a tipping point where we all just want peace.
Peace
The band's and their politics go hand in hand. The OP's idea is nice, but even more so, to see some simple peace and positivity towards others at the US shows, rather than anger about a GA line, or anything really, would be a success. That would be carrying on EV's message.
