Rarity at Austin City Limits?

SVRDhand13SVRDhand13 NYC Posts: 25,880
Flights and hotel officially booked for ACL week 2 for me and already excited about the trip we have planned. I'm expecting a "normal festival set", but can't help but hope for a rarity or two. Hard to Imagine would be my dream, but there is probably less than a 1% chance of that happening.

So, you think there is hope for a rare song? And if you're going, what rare song are you looking for?

Here's the set from 2009 ACL, which had Jazz Odyssey and Mountain Song, which are pretty damn cool:

SET 1
Why Go
Interstellar Overdrive
Corduroy
Got Some
Not For You
Modern Girl
Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
Given To Fly
World Wide Suicide
Even Flow
Unthought Known
Daughter
W.M.A.
Hail, Hail
Insignificance
Present Tense
State Of Love And Trust
The Fixer
Go

ENCORE 1
Jazz Odyssey
Red Mosquito
Do The Evolution
The Real Me
Alive
Mountain Song
Rockin' In The Free World

The highlight of that set for me is by far Red Mosquito w/Ben. One of the best performances I was lucky to experience... right up there with Daughter/It's Ok from Toronto 2011....

I'm sure we'll get a few rarities for sure...

I think we should start a thread for a pre-party somewhere Saturday night... I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather party with a bunch of PJ fans than see Eminem (no offense to Eminem, I actually do like his music, i just find the rap-genre in general doesn't do it for me live...)

Think you have a good chance of at least 1 rarity. Voodoo got Crown of Thorns last year. The year before Atlanta got Know your rights, Pensacola got Oceans and Parachutes. So they do throw some lesser known stuff in, at least to the casual fan
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...

We also got supersonic at the Atlanta show in 2012.

I was at Made In America in 2012 (the Jay Z show lol) and we got Know Your Rights as well. Plus a full version of WMA and Unemployable (which may not feel that rare but its only been played 4 times since 2009).

Okay good this thread is giving me hope haha

I would def take unemployable and WMA over KYR as well. I don't know, never been a clash fan.

And these Euro setlists are giving me hope too. Can only hope they get this creative with the American tour setlists.

If I come in on the Saturdays I'd be down. Got to wait and see if I can get single day passes first. planning ACL by ear this year.

I'm pretty sure we will get something cool, and rare, like a collaboration or something. Seeing Perry Ferrell come out and sing on "Mountain song" blew my mind. As did Ben Harper playing slide guitar on "Red Mosquito"

After all my bitching and moaning, some good friends of mine decided they are going to come down for weekend 2.... lol... i told them I would come to Austin to party with them, but might not go to the show, so weekend two, i'll be there all weekend...

not sure about weekend 1 yet, I know I'm coming for Sunday, but unsure what the complete plans are... might sleep in Sunday, drive up before and drive back after... we'll see... I hear red bull gives you wings....

As of now I'm only doing the Sundays but I may do a Friday if it looks good enough when the schedule us released and after shows are announced.

    cool.

it kind of works out for me, as I've been meaning for a long time to head out to Jester King for the experience. Thinking if I don't get there before that weekend, at least during weekend 2 I can take the day on saturday to go out and then come back and meet up with everyone later in the evening...

I am sure Ed will put something in the list for the die hard fans, there is almost always one nugget in the setlist, even at the festival shows.

Was it only Perry on vocals and is that song on the boot? Pretty great, if it is!
