I'm kind of holding out for a Pearl Jam person so I can avoid those arguments. :))

I've been a fan since the beginning. Most friends know I'm a big fan. Little frustrated with my oldest son (13 yrs). He doesn't "get it". Part of me wants to take him to the Milwaukee show knowing he'd understand once he experienced them live but I've decided that I'm taking my Mom Hat off that night to completely enjoy the moment.

Worcester 2 was my girlfriend's first show. A good show, not great, didn't quite compare to many other shows on that tour. Didn't matter. She loved it. Sometime during the first encore she turned to me and said "I want to go to Hartford with you, too!" So I got her a ticket and you know what happened... Hartford was EPIC! Now she fully "gets it".

    Yup.
If your not a fan by now. Then you have my pity.
I like to play the music when my kids have there friends over. I Think it will help them become better people as they grow. More compassionate, realistic and educated about the vicissitudes of life; their lives and others. Ah, the sub-conscious...it never fails. I have to say, my boys have their favorites and I'm glad for it. Looking forward to having them see the band live one day....As a side note, they can enjoy any kind of music they like. But, I think most of us grew up with the tunes our parents listened too.
I remember when, yeah. I swore I knew everything, oh yeah.

The look on an old friend's face when I explained I was meeting up with PJ fans I'd met...(gasp) ON THE INTERNET! ... was priceless.

Especially after I asked how the online dating was going.

    Haters gonna hate.

Lol. None of my friends give me that look (I think they're just happy I've got a way to share my music obsession with people other than themselves, LOL), but you should have seen the look on the border guard's face when I told him the same thing on my way to a show in the US alone. Hahaha. I actually felt like he didn't really believe me - he was very suspicious. :P
To get into Canada I had to name two Pearl Jam records and the release date of Lightning Bolt. Nailed it!

As far as work goes, people think it is different but understand that it is neat to travel the world while at the same time seeing your favorite band.

I suppose everyone likes different music if everyone liked pearl jam it would be like a march of robots, everyone has different perception and it depends on how we've been programmed and conditioned. I grew up listening to my dads record collection mainly grateful dead, little feat and the all man brothers, so luckily avoided the 80's, when pearl jam came along initially I didn't get it, but when hearing go and the flip side elderly woman found the band had great scope. My mum and dad have always loved pearl jam and sirens was played at my mums funeral. So it wasn't a rebel against parents thing, didn't really need to. Friends were more into the prodigy , guns n roses stuff, so if I take the time to listen to there tastes, they should have time to listen to mine, which to there loss mainly don't. I think it's a generational disconnection, 'what we listen to is where it's at mantra which we're all guilty of. Just go see them live is what I say and instead of show gazing self pity, they get life affirming positive vibrations. Pearl jam is a lifelong dedication and people outside feel a little bemused and I think jealous. Music is a companion and friend, whether going to one show or hundreds were all a community and what does it matter what some one else says, put on a cd and feel less alone, that's what I've done all my life:)

between 03-06 I was running around hitting as many shows as possible. My friends thought I was nuts. Then I realized they were right. Haha

    I still travel. .
But 1 or 2 shows a tour is good enough for me.
There were actually a couple tours here in the states where I didn't go to any shows.

I have never tried to "explain" Pearl Jam to any of my friends or family, just like I have never tried to explain any other bands I like to go see in concert a lot, like Grateful Dead, Phish, Iron Maiden, I like what I like and don't really care if other I know like what I like.

I've pretty much given up on most of my fellow boomers. I can tell sometimes my peers are thinking "Will he ever grow up?" and I think to myself, "Well, of course, and so has the band." Unless we're talking sixties or at best early seventies stuff it gets a little lonely talking music with my age group. Which is why I hang out with you all here. :-D

I'm in my early 50's & have been pleasantly surprised at the number of folks my age that kind of "GET IT" where Pearl Jam is concerned!
When I tell people my tour plans or talk about getting the new boots, they are genuinely interested & on several occasions even wish they could join in the fun!!
I work with 6 fellow PJ fans, none are 10 Club members, but 3 of them are doing the Cincinnati show this fall and 2 of these fans went to Pittsburgh last year!!
It is refreshing to know that WE are not alone!!! ;)

I have my Wrigley pennant up at my desk at work. A couple of weeks ago someone at work said to me, "I'm surprised at how many shows they still play today".

If they only really knew. I'm 29 and needless to say, not too many folks in my generation know that PJ is even still around, let alone still making albums, the best live band on the planet even today, and being one of the greatest rock bands of all time and most certainly the greatest American rock band and first ballot hall of farmers. And of course the flannel shirt jokes always come rolling in. And for some reason, most people who don't really know PJ think their music is "angry" and "depressing". LOL.

Someone told me the music is depressing and whiningly! WTF
As I said they just have to give it another try they meant it is just too complicated ! :-O
And if you tell them the music will grow on them you just get big eyes...
Stopped trying to explain it - but it´s really sad to not having someone around me who feels the same about this great music! :-<
So I spend most of my hard-won and rare PJ evenings on my own - and that´s also great bc then I can sing and dance and make it as loud as I like to! :D
