    Joe Strummer's version of Redemption Song may be the very best version I've heard:

    Have you heard the version Joe did w/ Johnny Cash? It's on Cash's Unearthed box set. Completely kicks ass.

    mine is Baker Street by the Foo Fighters(originally by Gary Rafferty)

    I love that too! And All Along The Watchtower!

    There's too many... the ones that spring to mind are:
    PJ - Sitting On The Dock...
    Johnny Cash - Hurt
    Sonic Youth - Let Me Be Your Dog
    Faith No More - Easy
    QOTSA - Everyone's Gonna Be Happy

    Most of those songs though, I prefer the original but I enjoy the cover too.

    Absolutely. The Dream Letter: Live in London 1968 version is especially brilliant.

    Right now I'm really digging Sublime's cover of Scarlet Begonias (Grateful Dead) and Iron & Wine's cover of Such Great Heights (Postal Service).

    Well I don't know if they ever recorded it, but I heard Audioslave play "Seven Nation Army" at Lollapalooza and it was awesome. There may be a bootleg floating around out there.

    Oh and yes, Dead Souls is by Joy Divison. The NIN version was recorded for the Crow soundtrack because the author of the comic book was a big Joy Divison fan. The orginial is pretty good too.

    Really like Bruce Springsteen's live cover on November 10, 1976 of "It's My Life" by The Animals;

    Also like Cat Power's cover of "Sea of Love" by Phil Phillips.
