I am getting so sick with seeing a magazine every other week with the front page being about some new unseen/unheard nirvana story. christ what is wrong with people?

  • Nirvana catylised the shift in music in the early 90's, music ever since them has taken on a far more emotional dimension - is that so hard to understand? I'm not saying they are the best band of the 90's or anything, but certainly a very important band. I personally don't like the Beatles but understand and respect why they are deemed so important, ultimately it was them that got the ball rolling.
  • Because music magazines need to be sold. Nirvana sells magazines. End of story.

But yeah, it's getting a bit too much, it's been downhill since the publication of the journals.
  • Whilst i do get annoyed of seeing Kurt everywhere still, my appreciation of Nirvana and the grunge genre as a whole has increased over the years.

What really fucks me off though is when kids say Nirvana invented grunge.

But you would have no problem if it was PJ every week...

Okay. Sorry about calling you out on it, but put it in perspective. You would be happy if it was PJ all the time wouldn't you?

Hole covered it during their episode of "Unplugged."

I agree that the nirvana thing is totally blown out of proportion. they just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I accept that kurt wrote some good songs but there were at least 3 far better bands from seattle at that time. Only PJ got anywhere near the recognition they deserved. what about Alice and soundgarden?

    hahahahhahaahahaha

    oh man..

Nirvana is the most overrated band in history. For sure. No one even comes close.. Also they've probably got to be one of the most marketed bands in history (99% of which came post-humous..).

Cobain is turning in his grave.

p.s. I still LOVE Nirvana, but let's be honest about the credit they receive.

Finally.....someone else who might remember that the sales for "In Utero" were horrible prior to Cobain's suicide.

They were only really over-rated 10 years later, when a hoard of new young fans re-discovered them, and SLTS was on MTV every 5 mins.

They were a great band, they did help bring grunge as a genre to light, whether you like it or not, alot of people actually got into other bands such as AiC, PJ, Soundgarden, The Screaming Trees etc ... after getting into them and reading up on other similar bands in the scene at the time, early 90's. I know I found the screaming trees and alice in chains through listening to them, and I'll never regret them ones :)

I found every band i've ever listened to stems back to Nirvana being first.

Granted, after my month or two stint of listening to nothing but Nevermind I picked up a certain cd I got with it for christmas called "Live on 2 Legs" (thank GOD a Jammer must have been working when my mom asked which cd she should get me)... after that I was like.. "What is this crap called "Nirvana"?? FUCK THAT. PEARL JAM PEARL JAM PEARL JAM..."

Well i didn't say "crap" or "fuck that" .. still love them... but point is that at least 3 of Nirvana's peers (soundgarden, alice, and especially Pearl Jam) were just soooooooo much better than they were.

  • Its funny that most of the Nirvana threads around here are from haters or people complaining about them. Surely posting about it only means they're talked about even more. They're like that lump on my balls, if i ignore it, it'll go away!!
