    Pearl Jam still put on an amazing show.... as do arcade fire....but don't be ridiculous Pearl Jam still have a lot of great years ahead of them... and if you don't think them exposing bands like Kings of Leon and My Morning Jacket isn't relevant then I guess yup we'll be seeing you off to the Decemberists forum (another great new album btw lol)

    really - outside of the core Pearl Jam fanbase, not many people give a shit about them anymore....don't think they attract many new fans these days

    .....my comment wasn't meant to be taken completely seriously - sometimes its fun to ruffle some feathers (although I do think it's mostly true)

    i think he was referring to nonsense like aic with a fake singer, smashing pumpkins without half the band, RATM reforming since none of its former members could make it on their own, cornell modeling jeans to sell more albums, etc etc.

    that remains to be seen. they ahve 2 albums. people were saying the same about pearl jam after 2 albums... they were the poser, milktoast, bon-jovi counterpart to the "real" musical luminaries of nirvana. they were going to be the journey-joke while nirvana was our beatles. time has shown them wrong. nobody knows what will become of arcade fire.

    And as of right now they are only heading straight upwards....I would rather have this type of music catch on with people today than anymore crappy, soul-less, fake pop music......

    i second that one...only time i heard of this band is on this forum, so what does that tell you

    TEN was in a league of its own at the time it came out and look at the staying power it has had over the years, especially on radio

    sorry i dont think this is even a discussion, ive listened to Arcade Fire and i dont get the hype

    I'm not sure that's true because my 14-year-old daughter and her friends turned me on to Pearl Jam just a few months ago after they had been fans for years.

    I have a question about the Arcade Fire. I like them a lot, even though I don't think that Win Butler is as good a song writer as Eddie Vedder, but when I play their music, it seems to be people my age who like them, not a lot of kids. My daughter and her friends are much more into Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and, yes, Pearl Jam than the newer indie type stuff. They call it old people's music. On the other hand I feel pretty comfortable playing Funeral for my 78-year-old aunt when I would never put on a Led Zeppelin album for her. What is going on here?

    That is very interesting insite.

    I think the arcade fire's "crowd" is 20-35 or so. Nto that those are the only people who listen to them, but i think they grab more attention with the college, post college and folks moving int their early 30's.

    Have you given the band Wilco a shot? I consider their albums yankee hotel foxtrot, a ghost is born and sky blue sky to be similar to arcade fire in their feel and their ability to play for a 78 year old :) Espcially their new album (comes out may 15th) Sky Blue Sky. That album is very mellow and i love it.

    Anyway not to get to far off topic. It s cool to hear folks are still becoming pearl jam fans.

    I would hazard a guess that it's because Aracade Fire have a good knowledge of sophisticated music; I don't like them because they fit into a genre I already liked (I usually HATE Indie, even if most of what I've heard is British) , but because their music is intelligent and thoughtful. I like any musician who gives careful thought to the way songs and albums are made. But they're not too 'catchy', hence the attitude of the littlens... your aunt probably has the patience and open mind to appreciate them (unlike some on this forum).

    Incidentally, my 14 year old sister is a fan. :)

    This band just doesn't do much for me... I dug their first album, but Neon Bible just seems so boring to me. I guess I don't get it or something.

    Well after hearing all of this talk about Arcade Fire (both good and bad) I decided to download Neon Bible today and listen to it with an open mind. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I must say I'm extremely impressed so far. It's very hard to describe what the music is like (some of it almost has a Springsteen feel to it), but I'm really liking it and I know it's going to get better as I listen to it more and more. I plan on buying it whenever the opportunity arises, because this band really seems genuine.

    I can see why not everyone likes it, but I would encourage everyone who hasn't done so yet to check it out. I feel like I stumbled on something special here.

    Both times I seen em they covered Springsteen... he's definitely an influence on them
