What are some bands you thought would be great live but once you saw them were kind of disappointed. Keep in mind, some bands may have had an off night when you saw them. For instance I have heard the Counting Crows and Live are great live, saw them each once and thought they were both shit. May have just been that night though. Danzig is another.

Saw the original Van Halen line-up on an off night during the Diver Down tour...flat out awful.

I had to sit through Motley Crue once as an opener....worst band that I have ever heard or seen.

  • Chilis seem to have one amazing night for every 3 or 4 shit nights. If they changed the setlist they'd be better for sure... I mean cmon they've been making music for like 25 years (17 of them with Frusciante) and they still play the same damn songs every night.

I've seen them 3 times. Twice openign and i thought they were good. Once headlingin their own show and it is to this day one of the best shows i have ever seen and i go to a ton of shows. Perhaps a bad night or maybe just not your style.

I would like to add Death Cab for Cutie to this list. I saw them twice. Once opening for PJ and once headlining their own tour. I like the music on the CD but for me it did not translate well live. The band just was lifeless. Shoegazer like. I was very disapointed and i'll never see them again.

Black Crowes. I think every song they played was 10 minutes long. Really boring set. Very disappointing.

  • Allman Bros. Keep in mind this was last august...

They were pretty good and solid musically but just had no life in them. Even Mellissa was lacking. They got completely upstaged by Moe. who opened for them.

that's why most people love them... but i guess that's a difference in taste. you probly dont like it when pearl jam stretches porch or evenflow or daughter into a 10 minute jam... that's always the highlight of the show for me.

But they play them differently every night, and they open and close every show with completely improvised jams that are usually mind blowing. I'll take that over a band playing completely different songs every night, but playing them exactly as they are on the album.

One of the worst live bands I've ever seen was The Who last year. They really showed their age, Roger couldn't sustain any notes. I still can't believe that I paid over $100 to sit in the back of an arena and watch an asshole and a child porn freak.

Okay, from now on lets make a rule that anyone who has no fucking idea what that child porn case was about and what happened during and as a result of it should shut the fuck up.

I guess mine would have to be Jimmy Eat World. They were the headliner on a festival show that the local rock radio station used to sponsor here in town. I went mainly to see Our Lady Peace, who were excellent, by the way. Either I expected too much of Jimmy Eat World since they were the headliner, or OLP was just that much better. Probably both. OLP was energetic, got the crowd into the set, and played well. Jimmy Eat World was just ok....it just seemed like a machine making its product and had no emotion or anything.
