I'm new to the band and want to know what everyone thinks of them and where I should start. I've known and liked Blister in the Sun for years but just heard Good Feeling on the TV show How I Met Your Mother. I really liked the song and wanted to check out some more stuff from them. From what I've seen, maybe I should start with their self-titled album since it contains the two songs I know. Any suggestions?
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

buy their debut, and then continue chronilogically to begin your slow descent into dissapointment.0

So you're saying that everything gets progressively worse from the debut forward?I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

i'm not saying all their albums suck....i'm just saying that you should keep listening until you hit the album that you cant stand and then quit buying the newer ones from there. But there is usually one awesome song on all their albums.0 -
Honestly, if you are new to the band, the best place to start would be getting their Add it up disc (a greatest hits collection), then you can either back track and go from the beginning, or move forward and get into their albums like 98 or 99's freak magnet (maybe hard to find) or 2000's ROCK. The viva Wisconson live disc is really good too. Now, I really liked rock and freak magnet, but it truly just depends on your taste, the other posters it seems don't care for the latter femmes and that is fine. Start with Add it up, it gives you a bit of everything, a taste of the studio cuts, and some live songs like Add it up, and kiss off.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

I tried with Violent Femmes several years ago after being amused by Blister and a couple of other songs.
What I found is that they pretty much do one thing well. If you enjoy that one thing, then you may like their other records because it's all they seem capable of doing.

bingo!
first album is great! tons of really good tunes.
besides that, i would get the greatest hits. American Music is probably their best tune!those undecided, needn't have faith to be free0 -
They played "poolside" at the South Coast Casino last Saturday. Almost went as we were in town for PJ, but there were other options."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." Mark Twain0

I have their greatest hits.....Of what ive heard Im not sure i'll buy the albums....It has some good songs but Im not sure Im really into them. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

In Buffalo on August 3...I expected to be disappointed because the one album I have, I love, but they've been around forever and I didn't think I'd know enough of their music to really enjoy the show...and it was raining and crappy out....but we had a blast...they're very energetic and the crowd was totally into it, and they have all sorts of interesting instruments onstage, big gongs and a brass section and whatnot....great show...and it was free!0

... at least ... the first half of the album ... i can listen to on endless repeat ... they would have done right to cut it off as a 12 song disc or so, however. If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?0 -
