Radiohead's New Record

and I got the email link. I am right in the middle of buying a house for the first time. I could not afford to buy it right now. My husband and I put a stop to any spending that wasn't necessary until we get through the next couple of months. So I put in $0 and I got the link. I will buy the actually disc when it is out in the stores but I just wanted to listen to it now. I have certainly spent plenty on Radiohead so I do not feel quilty about it one bit. I have been to 2 shows, I have all the other albums, I have the dvd's that are out, I have purchased various t-shirts and art from the website so I figured this was my turn to get a break. They certainly aren't struggling with money.
As far as the album goes. It's great. I love it. It took forever to come but I am very happy that it is here!Let's Go Red Sox!0 -
I paid $0 for it - and kind of glad. I can't really get into it - I RESPECT it more than I ENJOY it, so I may go ahead and still throw a few bucks their way, but I haven't really enjoyed much from them since Hail to the Thief. As a musician of many years, the music really isn't that inspiring or challenging from a songwriting point of view. I enjoy music with a lot of dynamic ranges, and this just a kind of mediocre lull throughout - it's something I could put on and fall asleep to. (I already have "Enya" CD's for that..:)
It's not terrible - just not what I was hoping for. I already gave the CD I burned away.Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)0 -

I went to see "into the wild" at the theater today and they were playing "15 step" on the theater speakers before the film started.
My favorite Radiohead albums are The bends and Ok computer. I can't decide which I like better, maybe the Bends, but just by a hair.
I haven't heard all of pablo honey nor do I own it yet. Need to get it.
Amnesiac is ok, I think it's their weakest, but still a decent listen. I much prefer the "I might be wrong: live recordings" version of "like spinning plates" way better than the Amnesiac version. I think Amnesiac is considered their B side/ experimental album anyway- I think.
I still need to see them live and want to really really bad. During the "OK computer" I was 15 and tix sold out in 5 minutes for the 3,000 seat theater in Houston. Can't remember why I couldn't go for the Kid A tour cause they played a much bigger venue but again a 5- 30 minute sellout. I hope I get the chance to see them on tour for this album.
Only thing is I wasn't a huge fan then, I wish I could go back and relive that show now that they're my (second) favorite band. They played Exit Music (For a Film) and I've never seen a crowd in such quiet awe in my life. It was fucking amazing.
Again, sorry. I just had to mention it. The Amnesiac-era show at the Woodlands was good, but not as great as that one.0 -

See I'm a musician too, but I love it. Sure, there aren't many dynamic changes or rhythm shifts, it's great melodically. The only song with a really cool structure is 15 Step. The rest stay solid pretty much through out. The production is great though, and I love all the percussion. The albums sounds more like soul and almost jazz album than rock.0 -

The Amnesiac-era show at the Woodlands was good, but not as great as that one.I remember reading the Houston Chronicle review and the critic said really close to what you did. The Verizon is tiny (I saw the Toadies there) and he said the crowd pretty much just walked away in awe from the mindblowing experience. I think they opened the show with "Airbag" but can't remember exactly. I just remember that being one of my favorite concert reviews from the Houston paper.
PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14
EV Solo: 7/11/11 11/12/12 11/13/120 -
I'm loving the new album that's for sure!!
videotape is haunting and emotionally chargedwow.....
Imagine giving THAT away for free??? Would be great to be able to share stuff like they have... I might re-buy it for some money this time heh
I wanna say this album kicks Kid A's arse.. but i havent listened to Kid A for Aaaaages! :eek:0 -
Radiohead have once again set the standard. They keep giving their fans the unexpected, yet brilliant. This album gets better with each listen. They always seem to be a step ahead of whatever else is going on in music.0

I agree to a point - I guess I'm just getting bored with music in general, particularly music that you can pretty much create with a couple of instruments and a laptop. I got into the electronic thing for a while, as a solo artist, but there's just something more appealing to me about music that sounds like a BAND is playing it. I think that's why I dig MIRRORBALL so much. It's not a GREAT album - but everything is there for me...the groove, the vibe, the dynamics, even the imperfections add character.
I'm glad that a lot of people are finding their way back to analog instrumentation - sometimes modern digital music just sounds too polished. I do record on a workstation, but all my instruments are live and all fx/processing done on the take. The only thing I screw with on the post-end is some level compression and maybe some vocal touch-up.Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)0 -

The Woodlands show was my first Radiohead show. I thought it was fucking amazing. They closed that show with The Bends, which I'm sure we won't hear much anymore. I saw them live only once more in New Orleans in 2003, and that was even better. They fucking played Climbing Up The Walls which is my favorite Radiohead song ever. It was insane. They are incredible and just as good live as PJ. It's quite different than PJ in that instead of a soaring Mike solo, you get insane Johnny guitar antics or Johnny fucking with an analog switchboard...which is fucking sweet.0 -

I haven't heard the new one yet, but I didn't much care for Hail to the Thief and absolutely hated Thom Yorke's solo album. It's funny, when Coldplay came out, everyone said they were the new Radiohead, and now I kind of feel like Radiohead are the new Coldplay. They've drifted ever closer to the middle of the road. From what folks are saying about these songs, it doesn't sound too promising.0

Most backwards statement of the year. Absolutley not. Radiohead's new album is LIGHTYEARS ahead of anything Coldplay could possibly put out.0 -
on my 1st listen...so far, so good. damn good, that is.
just wish PJ would have gone more in this direction (not musically) than the u2 direction when they were free-agents...i prefer to NOT see too much of them around mainstream media.
btw, i bought the discbox, and am greatly anticipating the sweet vinyl and bonus disc, plus whatever the hell else is on there. just wish the US dollar was worth more than shit so it wasn't so expensive.6/26/98, 8/17/00, 10/8/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/25/03, 5/28/03, 6/1/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 6/6/03, 6/12/03, 6/13/03, 6/15/03, 6/18/03, 6/21/03, 6/22/03, 7/12/03, 7/14/03, 10/3/04, 10/5/04, 9/9/05, 9/11/05, 9/16/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/19/06, 6/30/06, 7/23/06, 8/5/07, 6/30/08, 8/23/09, 8/24/09, 5/4/10, 5/7/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/11/13, 10/17/14, 8/20/160 -
Speaking of PJ...
If anyone didn't know, "In Rainbows" was recorded using the Binaural technique. The one and the same.0 -
Well I for one think it kicks ass. It aint Ok Computer, but it's good. Better than Hail.
If anyone cares at all, I wrote up a review for my job...

And oh yeah, eff Coldplay.0 -
I'm really not one to flame...I try to respect everybody's opinion and give props to those I find myself in accord with...but the comparisons to Coldplay are unwarranted. Coldplay are a bunch of pap artists on level with Nickelback or Yanni. Radiohead is, for my generation, one of the handful of bands with any passing relevance. They're arguable, but let's throw Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, REM, the Peppers and the assorted few solo artists on there. Like I said, arguable, but to those who follow music outside of the Random Notes pages of Rolling Stone, there really aren't that many bands of that caliber. Anybody who feels "Radiohead is the new Coldplay" is missing chromosones. At least one, and maybe two.0
