I know this is a Pearl Jam board, but sometimes I get tired of just talking about them. What do you all make of "In Rainbows" by Radiohead?

    I think the problem is,

Nobodys hanging out at the other music, politics, art, Given to fly or whatever spaces - and everything ends up on the Porch these days!
  • It's incredible. I feel like I'm floating through some pinkish, purple universe when I listen to it. It's completely sublime. I don't think I've ever been so pleased with any 10 songs on an album before.

Question for the folks that bought the record - I saw in an article that Radiohead let the fans determine the price they'd pay for the songs. How did it work? Was it a poll or you actually entered an amount to purchase the cd?

You entered the price that you wanted to be charged for it. I paid $20 for it (and bought the discbox) just because I was so big of a fan of the idea of letting the consumer pay what the album is worth to them. The idea they used was worth the $20 alone to me.

This is really cranking up my list for album of the year. What's everyones thoughts on what the singles should be? I'm thinking All I Need for the first single and Bodysnatchers for the second.

Isn't it sissy music for sissy geeks? I mean, 'In Rainbows?' 'Feels like floating on clouds?' Even if I did like them, I sure in hell wouldn't tell anyone about it..

  • I'm glad I chose to go with a low $ amount. The album is kinda like a whimpering blue balled dog.

Thanks for the info. So, could someone enter say $5 and pay that for the record? Just wondering if there were any limitations.

I just downloaded the album for free! that means I bought the album for $0.00. If I like it I will buy the actual CD when it comes out.

  • I'll buy the cd when it comes out like I always do but I gave em $5 bucks for the download as well. They are visionaries and deserve the extra skrill. And the album itself is awesome. A slight return to the the Bends album, which has always been my favorite anyway.

I paid $0.69 for the album, and I love it. Beautiful is definitely the word for it.

Oh, and I ended up buying the Discbox too, so I don't feel too bad that I only paid 69 cents. :P

  • Am I the only one that thinks these first ten songs are middle of the road Radiohead? Nothing really exciting among all of them aside from maybe bodysnatchers and house of cards...disc 2 must have all the gems on it!

  • I think it's grow on you music like all of their albums. Every listen gets better. When I first hear OK Computer (loving the Bends, mind) I almost took it out of the player. But obviously it has staying power...think this one will too.

That thread in Other Music is gettin outta control, anway.

I am a middle of the road Radiohead fan, love the first 3 albums, find Kid A unlistenable, haven't given Amnesiac a chance b/c of that, sorta dig HTTT.

So far(4 listens)it has already grown on me in leaps and bounds. First listen, was kinda meh, 2nd listen was about the same, 3rd got changed for somethin else, now its playin as I type this and I have found every song fairly likable. The album really breezes by.

I was a middle of the road radiohead fan at first, but they grew on me really quickly. I think In Rainbows is truly amazing, and this album is getting all kinds of promotion. I went to see "into the wild" at the theater today and they were playing "15 step" on the theater speakers before the film started.

My favorite Radiohead albums are The bends and Ok computer. I can't decide which I like better, maybe the Bends, but just by a hair.

I haven't heard all of pablo honey nor do I own it yet. Need to get it.

Amnesiac is ok, I think it's their weakest, but still a decent listen. I much prefer the "I might be wrong: live recordings" version of "like spinning plates" way better than the Amnesiac version. I think Amnesiac is considered their B side/ experimental album anyway- I think.

I still need to see them live and want to really really bad. During the "OK computer" I was 15 and tix sold out in 5 minutes for the 3,000 seat theater in Houston. Can't remember why I couldn't go for the Kid A tour cause they played a much bigger venue but again a 5- 30 minute sellout. I hope I get the chance to see them on tour for this album.
