What the heck ever happened to this song? It is a PJ song right? It's listed as an original. I know it's a Xmas single, but I'm just a bit confused. If it is their song, then why has it only been played twice, and why wasn't it on Lost Dogs? I love the song, and it's really beautiful. If anyone has some info on it I'd appreciate it.

  • I dont have any answers for you man, other than it was the b-side on the last kiss single, but originally it was supposed to be the other way around. And I agree that the song is awesome

You are thinking of Soldier of Love from the Last Kiss single.

Last Soldier, which is awesome, was played at Bridge School and released on a X-mas single the same year, 2001.

I would love to hear a studio version of this song. It's still a lost dog I guess.
  • One of the first songs written during the Riot Act sessions. Mike wrote the music. Why it never made the album is a mystery to me.

  • Sorry, I don't have much info either except that it's a great song.
I don't have a copy of it anywhere, so if you know where I can find it on the inter-web, hook a bruvva up.

  • Unfortunately, it's a mystery.
I wish it gets played more often...more than those 2 times, it's an amazing song...
"I surfaced and all of my being was enlightened"
  • I'm listening to this song right now, from Bridge 2001-boy do I love this song! I am also wondering why it's not played more often. Does anyone know if it has been played live since this Bridge performance??
    "A beacon on dry land"

It's so weird to see this post. I went to the 2001 Bridge shows and pretty much forgot about this song until I watched the youtube videos of the shows that were posted last week. I remember thinking at the time it was a pretty cool song but due to the events of 9/11 just a month before it was kind of Mike's way of dealing with the tragic day. I listened to the song again and now think it works much better in the last 11 years with the wars our country has engaged in. They should play it more and have a studio version of the song. It's much better than "No More" in my mind.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.
  • Agreed, a great song, it wouldn't have fit very well onto Riot Act but if they ever actually recorded a studio version I'd be interested to hear it. Maybe Mike was saving it for his solo release that was supposedly happening a while back but seems to have gone quiet - anyone know what the deal is with that?

According to the Music section on this website Last Soldier is a cover.
I appreciate I'm a bit slow on this conversation but I'm listening to some Bridge School music and was wondering if there was any further information on this track.

(If not 'Hello October 2012' anyways)

I think it's listed as a cover because they probably never recorded it in the studio. Same with Falling Down. But it is a Pearl Jam song or I guess a Mike McCready song

I love that song. I got to see it played live! Wish a studio version would surface or they start to play it again.

Thanks! First time I've heard that song, it's really nice!

It's an original not a cover?

Mike wrote it. Only two times played were at the 2001 Bridge School Concerts.

They played it three times actually, the last time in 2004 in a short 3 songs set
