is there any new jazz out there that is worth listening too? My jazz collection stems mostly from the 1950's ( coltrane,Miles, art blakely) and was just wondering if their is anything today that is kind of decent.

Wynton Marsalis is not really a new jazz musician but he is newer then the classics like monk, miles, coltrane, hancock etc.
He is a trumpet player and many folks say his early albums are great miles davis imitations, but he has grown as a musician of his own ability since those days. If you are not familar with him you may want to check him out.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -

Check out a group called The Bad Plus. Some jazz people love them, some hate them. Personally, I love them to death. They have three albums: "These are the Vistas," "Give," and "Suspicious Activity." "These are the Vistas" is my favorite.
They are very talented musicians, and have unique songwriting. They always do some good covers as well. The have covered Nirvana, Aphex Twin, and Black Sabbath.8/22/98 - Toronto

Wynton Marsalis is amazing. I'm lucky to have had the oppurtunity to see him once.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -
This is a great radio show. The times are GMT London. Shows are archived, so you can click that "Listen to the latest programme" link and it'll bring up last Friday's show.

On a whim a few weeks ago I borrowed Blood on the Fields from the local library. An incredible peice of work!"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I think the whole Scandinavian peninsula has a wide array of new jazz talent. Mostly free jazzy stuff, though.
Bob Weir mentioned some great names. Nice funky stuff!
I'm really into Bill Frisell at the moment. Great stuff."If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done"
If you can't get high on purely music and the sounds that you hear, you're missing out on something.0 -

The album he did with Petra Haden is very good. Love the 'I Don't Wan't To Grow Up' song."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
