Who remembers Reading Rainbow?

Yeah, it was a neat little show when I was growing up but that opening theme song is pretty cool. I wonder what that effect is at the very beginning. It sounds like tremolo with something but I have no idea. Can someone help me?

    Seeing as that show was around in the early 80's, I'm guessing some sort of synth was used for the effect.

    It sounds like a synth keyboard with a square-wave tremolo.
    ...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

    That's exactly what it is. Almost sounds like a VCS 3 or a really cool 80's version of one.

    Look up how Pete Townshend recorded "Baba O' Rielly" or watch this video of Pink Floyd and how they made "On The Run" and you get an idea of how sequencing is done.

    I think that effect is awesome. Since it's keyboard, I don't think I'll get something close to that sound (I don't want to buy anymore pedals as I have about 16 on my board as it is). Thanks so much everyone. I do want to thank everyone who's contributed to this board. For a little over two years, this has been my one stop area for gear help. Thank you ALL!!!!
