I was grooving along the other day, when suddenly I noticed my bass pedal basically went sluggish. Anybody ever have this happen or know how to fix it? I've checked the springs visually and nothing seems different. Any advice from other drummers? I'm pretty new so I could be missing something obvious.
Thanks,
Corey

When you say sluggish do you mean unresponsive? i have a pearl pedal and that pedal just flat out isnt very responsive. Its a little hard at times to do quick double kicks repetitively. I changed spring settings, got a new one, still pretty crappy.
If you want a great pedal go for the DW 5000 pedal. its $170 but is so incredibly smooth and responsive.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

Yeah, dw and Pearl both have good reputations for drums and hardware alike. Sonor not so much. You could replace the spring (I'm sure local drum shops would have replacments) or you could get an entirely new pedal altogether.
 Here's a reasonable one:

Make sure the chain is properly seated on the wheel. It's just like a bike chain, if some of the links tilt off the teeth of the wheel the pedal may not respond correctly.0
