What do I need to download to make it work?

How then can it be transfer to a standard text file?

    Just download power tab editor and the power tab files you want to play

    I don't know if you can put them in text files, I've never tried.

    But you should look into guitar pro. It's not free, but it's 100 times better than power tab, you can download a free demo version from their site to try it out.
