E-mailed Real McCoy

I e-mailed Goeffrey Teese at Real McCoy last week and he still hasn't got back to me. I told him I was very interested in the picture wah and that I just had a few questions before I purchased it. How long does he usually take to reply to his e-mails. Do you think I should call him or send another e-mail or just wait it out?

A brief follow up email communicating how enthusiastic you are about getting his advice might not hurt. He's got a great rep for being responsive, but it is right around the 4th of July, and you never know when the guy may be taking a vacation. I think so long as you communicate things in terms of being positive, interested in his products and convey a serious interest in buying I doubt you'll wear out your welcome. Let us know what you hear back when you do.

He has recently re-located to the other side of the country from where he was, so he might still be busy getting organised. My experience was that he was very quick to reply, so there is probably a reason why he hasn't returned your e-mail.

Yeah, the relocation thing has probably got him really busy right now. He has a great reputation for customer service so send him a follow up and give him a week to get back to you.

Although honestly, if you place an order and don't like your wah sound, Teese above most everybody else would be happy to have you send it back and perhaps try a different one or give you a refund altogether (minus shipping). I'd say you're safe no matter which route you decide to take.

Since you were originally thinking about a Cry Baby or Vox, just go ahead and get the Teese Picture
Wah - it's a better Wah all around (also, what would you ask Teese that one of us couldn't answer)?

Yeh Ian I agree with you.......I'm going with the Picture wah. You guys convinced me. It's just a tough decision because I can't try one out before I buy it. No local music stores carry them. There's only 2 dealers in Canada and I called both stores and they don't even have them at there stores yet. They are on order.
My question is.......Does the Picture wah have setting knobs like the 535Q crybaby or is it already preset to the way Teese makes it? I would prefer it if it was already preset to a certain sound. The less knobs and buttons on a pedal the better for me. I won't have to worry about hitting a knob by accident while playing live and I won't have to spend days trying to find my perfect sound.
The reason I ask is because my buddy has the Real McCoy 3 and he said that the adjustment knobs are on the inside of the pedal so you don't hit them by accident so I was wondering if the Picture wah was the same or already preset?

The picture wah is a reverse engineered exact copy of the best classic Vox wah that Teese ever worked on as a tech, so it's totally preset, with the exception of an adjustable boost pot which is inside, so you can reduce tone loss during leads, or add a bit of boost if you want. I posted a story Teese sent me about that a while back, the search function might throw it up, or I'll check my old emails, and it might still be there, if you want.
Because a wah is basically a sweeping frequency filter, you typically get an overall SPL drop, and the boost can overcome that.
If you bought an RMC 3, you would just waste time fiddling with it, and end up making it like a Pic wah anyway, so go the Pic wah

Nope, no knobs on the outside - As Lucy said, it's basically a really really great VOX (but true-bypass).

THat's been my experience with adjustable wah's too. I don't need the knobs save the boost I don't need to mess with the Q. I love basically the sound of the old Vox wah anyway so the Pic is it for me.

I've always wanted to try that carbon fiber wah that Roger Mayer built that's low profile. but it does seem a little impractical. The side jacks protect connections on the floor which sometime get kicked out if there's no stage but the setting buttons are on the front... that makes no freaking sense at all.
